I just wanted to point out that that particular weirdness is actually also found in the registers themselves. If someone married or had a child baptized in a parish other than their own, the second parish would sometimes, depending on the particular church officials involved, notify the first parish of the event and the event would then get entered in both registers. The "home" parish for the person would enter it in their own register as occurring in the other parish. I know of several entries in the Limerick Genealogy database which refer to events in Cork and I'm quite glad they do as it documents the family link between the two locations. I'm as critical as any body about the quality and incompleteness of the data and the fees that they charge but on this particular point, the comment is neither accurate nor fair. You know when you use this site you have to initally click on the map to go to what ever particular County you want to search, right? So one would assume that if you are researching in County Limerick that the ONLY records you'd get back are ones actually in County Limerick....but sad to say this is NOT true. For example, click on Co Limerick and then do a search for Birth Records HANNIGAN, Catherine, 1845 +/- 4 years and it brings back 6 records - 3 of which are in County Cork!!!!! So what's up with that?? It's totally weird and they've obviously got some "bugs" to work out! Kathy Rhodes ------------------------------
Tom It must be quite common for events outside of the Parish to be entered in Church registers. My parents were married in England, but when I received a copy of my father's baptism certificate from his church in Ireland, the marriage had been entered onto his baptism certificate.
