Kathy~ Don't assume the age of Baptism sponsors. There are many incidences both in Ireland and in the USA in the Catholic church where sponsors are in their early teens. Also, grandparents have also been sponsors. "Back in the day" they had to be practicing Catholics. However, I have been to two over the past few years where one of the godparent's was not Catholic. One MUST be Catholic but not necessarily the other, per our pastor. I had questioned him after the service. les wright <olgeta@bigpond.net.au> wrote: Hello Kathy, I will contact you further regarding the names you asked me to look at, I have a fair bit of information for you. Mary Ellen~ Thanks for the info about ages of baptism sponsors. Can I assume that it would be fairly unusual for the sponsor to be a teen? Also can anyone tell me if it has benefited them much in their research to figure out the relationship of the sponsor to the child being baptised? I guess what I'm asking is.... Do you find mostly that the sponsors are relatives of some sort and it is therefore wise to pay attention to and spend time researching them? OR Do you find that in the main they are merely friends and not relatives and chasing after them is not worth the time and effort? Thanks!
