Hi Kathy, My 3x Great grandfather ended up in Saint John NB in 1842, then went to Sidney Maine in 1843 and finally settled in Yarmouth Maine in 1847. I am the 6th generation to live in his that he built in Yarmouth Maine. According to his declaration of Citizenship from 1847, he was born in Glin in 1819. I think 1819 is made up. I think he was born in 1806 because in all the census records I have found, they say he was born in 1806 and his head stone says he was born in 1806. Where did your Kearney come from in Limerick? When was he born? I should mention that I found a John and Mary Kearney living in Annan Dumfries Scotland in 1841 with a child James who was 4 months old. John and Mary had the same birth years as my John Kearney(1806) and Mary Scanlon(1816). I cannot find the family anywhere else. So they may have immigrated from Scotland. The dates match my John Kearney. If he did in fact arrive in Saint John NB in 1842, he very well could have left from Scotland or Liverpool England. I have to do more research on Irish immigration from Ireland to Scotland and then to Canada or America. Would love to trade notes, keep in touch! Thanks for asking about my family. I have one in my tree who married my grandmother's grandfather's daughter, James Kearny and lived in SE Iowa or Keokuk to be more precise.
