Valarie There is apparently an index at the National Library of Ireland but I am unsure how complete it is. A large number 19th century newspapers in British Library have been scanned. These newspapers including the Freeman's Journal: http://www.bl.uk/collections/britishnewspapers1800to1900.html http://www.galegroup.com/tlist/bl_ncnp.html Once scanned the newspapers are indexed using optical character recognition (OCR). While improving OCR is far from perfect but is a great starting point. These scanned newspapers may be accessed through some large libraries and universities for free. The National Library of Australia has such access through its e-resources but only for people at the library or who have remote access through a special arrangement. I have made many (about 12,000) extracts (the hard way by reading the microfilms) from the Freeman's Journal and other Irish newspaper and have put them up on my website. -- Regards Nick /Home/ http://members.iinet.net.au/~nickred/ <http://members.iinet.net.au/%7Enickred/> /Sites managed/ http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~registryofdeeds/index.html <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Eregistryofdeeds/index.html> http://www.igrsoc.org/index.htm http://members.iinet.net.au/~nickred/majuratennis/ <http://members.iinet.net.au/%7Enickred/majuratennis/>
