I have a Gorman / Dwyer family that emigrated to Philadelphia. It was a very large family. The Gorman children state that they were born in Limerick, but the Dwyers seem to marry heavily into Tipperary families. I'm confused by the associations and there are limited documentation in Philadelphia to identify where they were from. Unfortunately they were all born prior to Civil Registration as well. Just my two cents. My gg grandfather was avid Sheehan, born circa 1825 in Ireland. My gg grandmother Catherine orman was born 1823 also in Ireland. According to the 1861 census of oplar all 5 of their children were born in Middlesex, but none of the irths seem to have been registered.Catherine died in 1885, but David asted until 1898 so I got a clue from the 1891 census, which states hat he was born in Limerick. So now I need to try and track a marriage etween 1843( when David would have been 18) and 1852 when their oldest aughter was born. I did a search on FreeBMD today and am sure they idn't marry in Britain. The family was Roman Catholic, any clues would e appreciated Regards Joe Austen in OZ ------------------------------ ------------------------------- o unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] ith the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of he message
I have both Gormans and Dwyers in my background, too. When we were in Ireland this past September, we were told that both the Ryans and Dwyers who lived in Co. Limerick (Pallasgreen) lived right on the border of both counties. I think the county line was almost an artificial construct which really didn't have much to do with these families. Both counties were in their local area.
