Sylvia, My wife's great grandmother, Catherine Higgins, was born in the town of Rathkeale in 1833. Her parents were John and Catherine Condon Higgins. She was baptized on June 17 in Rathkeale Parish (Diocese of Limerick) at St. Mary's Church. Godparents were John Keshan and Anna Condon. The town of Catherine's birth appears on the death certificate of her daughter Mary Carroll Moran, who died on April 6, 1938. On February 12, 1861, Catherine, 27, married Edmond Carroll, 25, in Herbertstown. Witnesses were David Carroll and Marianne Corbett. Herbertstown is 28 miles from Rathkeale. Edward and Catherine had seven children in Limerick. Based on son Patrick's birth record, they lived in the townland of Stonepark in County Limerick. This is in Ballybricken & Bohermore Parish (St. Ailbe's Church), in the Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly. In 1880, the family emigrated to the Near West Side of Chicago.
