Pat, I have been following this sight for some time, learning much from all of you listers in my family search. Thanks to all! I have to date not ventured on here, as I didn't think I had anything to contribute. But, upon seeing Knockainy I took notice. I recently learned my gr.gr.gr. grandfather Maurice Kirby was living in Knockainy when he married my gr.gr.gr. grandmother Mary Ryan, whose address was Hospital Parish. They were married in Feb., 1825. This info is from their Marriage Record at the Archdiocese. Their marriage was witnessed by John Ryan and Michael O'Carroll at Hospital Parish. Maurice and Mary's first child, Margaret, was baptized in Hospital Parish in March 1826. I assume he had relocated to Hospital after their marriage. Or, perhaps they returned to Hospital Parish for their first child's baptism. Now back to your question of people moving from where they were born and raised; Maurice and Mary both moved from their Parishes as their next child, John Kirby was baptized in the Emly parish in 1830, as were their next six children. Maurice may have owned a dry goods store in Emly, at least family correspondence indicates some of the Kirby family operated a store in Emly. Maurice Kirby's name shows up as a resident in the village of Emly in Griffth's. So, yes they moved and geminately relocated. I have the names and birthrates of all 8 Kirby children that lived in Emly, if anyone is interested I would share this info. Or if anyone has information on the Kirby family that owned a dry goods store in Emly I would love to learn about that. I believe 6 of Maurice and Mary Kirby's children immigrated from Emly to Cleveland, Ohio, USA, between 1850 and 1862. My gr.gr grandmother was Catherine Kirby, born Oct.,1838. Married Laurence Mulligan in Cleveland, Ohio abt. 1863.
