Mick Kearney was born in Rockhill.He played with several different teams and in 1947 he won the hurling title at a county meet. Later that year he won an All Ireland Junior Hurling medal with Cork in the same year. Nicholas Kearney was an Irish Papist of Kilmallock. Nicholas had lands in Bruree parish that were confiscated by the Cromwellians. He lived in teh townland of Shanacloone.
