    3. Hi Cris. In our SHEAHAN family who hailed from Shanagolden, there is a SYLVESTER in the first gen. born in Australia. It has no precedent oin the family - it was said that he was sos named in honour of a priest, perhaps a parish priest, in their parish. I note yuor man is also Sylvester. It may mean nothing, but it does lend support to the suggestiopn that you search the Shanagolden records. RegardsJohn

    3. John, Forgive me for intruding on a conversation, but hoping that you may be able to shed some light on Shanagolden and where to find records, other than the rootsireland.ie.  My GGrandparents were married there in 1873.  My GGrandmother was born in St. Michaels in 1855 as Catherine Lynch, her father was Thomas and mother Ellen.  My GGrandfathers place of birth is still unknown to me as his mothers maiden name was James.  His name was John Sullivan, as was his fathers.  His mother was Margaret James.  I have searched the rootsireland and spent more than a fair amount of money for the records but have not found a birth record for John Jr. or a marriage record for John and Margaret.  Would you have any suggestions for where else to look?  I have already tried the Griffiths valuation and did find a James family in St. Michaels.  John Sulllivans were everywhere.  But when I tried these places as birth areas for John Jr., I never came up with the correct parents.  Very frustrating.  Any help would be most appreciated.  Thanks so much.
