Since Les is seeking RC sacramental records for St. Michael Church Limerick City, would they not be at the diocese archives? Was there not a problem a few years back with the diocese not permitting sacramental data to be used either via the now defunct Heritage or any other group?? Has there been a change in the Diocese stance on permitting people to obtain pre 1864 sacramental records for their ancestors? That would be just wonderful! Mary Ellen
Hello Chris, The only one I see that could be possible was not the correct age but I know that should not be taken seriously. Would the area Kilmallock be possible. Johns address at the time of death was Colloomey St, now Wolfe Tone Street A grandson of his Thomas Byrne lived in the Kilmallock area! Where is Cratloe in relation to Limerick city & what sought of an area is it? Hello List, I have applied for a death certificate for a John Byrne/Burne, buried 13th December, 1874 Mt St Lawrence Cemetery Limerick. To-day I have received notification that no registration appears for this person in this time frame. Why would this be & what are my options. Regards, Robyn Wright.
Mary Ellen, This is true. I have a brick wall caused by a marriage that was never registered. That was in Longford, so it happened all over. Since I look on the death index a lot I am inclined to think the number is higher for deaths. People were probably grieving and didn't want to deal with it. I also noticed that the record might fall into the registration period following the death. I had a headstone with a March date yesterday and found a very good match in April-June. That made sense. Robyn, How old would he have been? You are seeing Registration Districts. Because we could not find (in County Waterford) a civil death record for my husband's great grandfather, inquired into this. We were told that in the early years of Civil records, no penalty was applied for deaths & marriages. It was only in later years that it was enforced (late 19th century). Our source was from the Waterford Heritage on Jenkins Lane, in the 1990s. Assume this was true in all the counties. I have updated the County Limerick surname registries on my website. If you have names in the registries and your email address and/or your data has changed, remember to update the registries so people can contact you. You do that by submitting a new form and putting the new info in the field(s) that need changing and putting CHANGE also in the field. Don't forget to add the surname(s) so I can find it. I also added three neat advertisement where tenants from both Abington and Rathkeale added their names to an issue. You can find them under the Land Records category. Many thanks to Andrew Pierce from MA for sending them to the website. I have not fully updated the site, ran out of time today. I have more records and pictures to add that were sent by good people to the site. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
Hello Sharon, Thank you for replying to me, I will give you the newspaper article On Saturday , after a tedious and protracted illness, which he bore with Christian resignation to the Divine will, Mr Thomas Byrne aged 33years, (late of Cratloe and Caherelly), son of Mr John Byrne, of 35 Upper Cecil Street. The early demise of a fond and affectionate son, an attached parent, and compassionate friend, is much regretted by all who knew him. These Byrnes mere of the Merchant class, I can take them back a couple more generations in Limerick. Thomas married an Eliza Bennett the daughter of Thomas F Bennett a gentleman from Rathanny. They married in both the C of E & RC churches by licence. The Byrne family did not realise that they did marry as the marriage was not accepted by the Bennett family, Thomas Bennett must have softened his ways as he looked after their eldest son Thomas with land. But the main Bennett lands were entailed to the Bennett family who are now RC. What illness might he have had? 1. Would anybody be able to tell me why a Thomas Byrne who was buried Jan 1860 appears to be buried alone..his daughter Dora died the following year & is buried in another part of the cemetery, her grandfather John Byrne who died many years later is buried with her. Thomas Byrne was married to Eliza Bennett who was a Protestant & is probably buried with her family...I cannot find her resting place. Any help greatly appreciated. Robyn
Hi looking for any information on Martin McGrath father of Mary McGrath born 1856 Castleconnell Mother Mary Brennan I believe this is the Mary Brennan who then is found with Michael Keane (possibly married) They have children John, Michael, Charles, Catherine and possible others all around Castleconnell area. Mary McGrath has a daughter Margaret Nora Lynch around 1882 who is raised with the Keane family (grandmother and uncles and auntys) Mary McGrath disapears after her baby is born possibly to England or Ireland. John Keane and his wife Mary Maroney lived in Bunkey Castleconnel Margaret Nora Lynch came to Australia 1902. Any information especially what happened to Martin McGrath - I can find no more children on rootsireland for Martin McGrath and Mary Brennan. Regards Gay O'Neill
Interesting, I wonder if it was because of the protracted illness, that would tie into what we already know about burials of infectious persons. As a side note, I did a blog on 22 Cecil Street Upper only a few weeks back, http://limerickslife.com/2012/100-years-of-22-cecil-street-upper/ it could easily have been 35 Cecil Street Upper, as I just picked the number at random, it is a pity it wasn't as it would have helped with your research. Hello List I have started updating Kiltanenlea Parish ( Clonlara ) on Ireland Reaching Out Project. I have added the townlands of the parish and also a little bit of history for some townlands. I would welcome feedback and also any help you can give me. I think this is a great project and any help or info on this parish will be greatly appreciated. It is my own Parish so I do have a little bit of knowledge and history about the area. I am hoping to make this little bit of County Clare a good resource for researchers worldwide. http://www.irelandxo.com/group/kiltenanlea-clare Margaret Visit the Spearin Surname Project @ http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spearin/Index.html and here at our facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/219630734727688/
I was reading a bit online and came across a blog I hadn't seen called "Free Irish Genealogy E-Books". Maybe I am the last to see it. The blog pulls together free digitized books related to Irish Genealogy. It takes a bit of work to look through these, but so does a library. http://freeirishgenebooks.blogspot.com/ I found this mentioned on the blog by Deborah Large Fox called "Help! The Faerie Folk hid my Ancestors". Also a neat blog about Irish Research. http://irishfamilyresearch.blogspot.com/ It is really nice that so many "classic" books about Ireland and Irish Genealogy are being put online. Christina

Ugh! Forgive all the typos. I need to reread before I hit send.:) Chris
The 1911 census is free on Ancestry.uk over the weekend. http://www.ancestry.co.uk/1911?AID=11058815&PID=5737308 I checked it out. After a search it asks for you name and email before you can see the records. That seemed to be pretty much all. So, if you have been wanted to try the English 1911 census, this is your chance. Hope you have some luck. BTW, this news came from Claire Santry's blog which I recommend. http://irish-genealogy-news.blogspot.com/2012/05/1911-census-for-england-wales-free-all.html Christina
