    2. Hi Christina, I would like to check some RC Parish records in the area of the town of Ardagh (about 3 mi. from Newcastle West). Do you know where there would be baptismal records as early as 1825-1835 for my Kennedy's?? The children were John, Pat, and Catherine and father's name was Patrick. The children all coming to America by 1846-1848. Please help. Corrine

    2. Chris Hunt
    3. I just found a new article from 1836 about a Cornelius FRAWLEY in Ahawilk Parish, Mahoonagh, Limerick He is listed as a land owner. My Cornelius Frawley(b.1799) and his brother, Patrick (b.1793) are in Ontario, Canada in 1837 as land owners We think they came to Canada in 1832 but are not sure. I think the name Cornelius is a bit unusual and wonder if the landowner in Limerick is at least related. Can anyone find any info on him or the area? This is the first possible Frawley lead in Limerick (all we know is they came from Limerick). I know they named their sons after family and Patrick had sons Jeremiah, Nicholas, John, Michael, Thomas. Cornelius had a daughter Honora. They both named a son Cornelius. thanks, Chris Hunt

    3. Hi Chris,        Do you know if he was ever in the military before coming to Canada? My ggggrandparents came from Limerick 1831 and was settled on their land grant in 1832. He had commuted his commission in the military. Also have you tried to look at the site www.ourroots.ca to see if he is mentioned in any of the books. Also research at this site to see if he is mentioned in any of the military litsts  http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/lso.     Carla     - On Thu, 6/7/12, Chris Hunt <cah1800@earthlink.net> wrote: From: Chris Hunt <cah1800@earthlink.net> Subject: Re: [IRL-LIMERICK] FRAWLEY in Ahawilk To: irl-limerick@rootsweb.com Date: Thursday, June 7, 2012, 9:26 AM I just found a new article from 1836 about a Cornelius FRAWLEY in Ahawilk Parish, Mahoonagh, Limerick He is listed as a land owner. Excellent point, James.  And at the time (last half of the 19th century), New York City had more Irish speakers than any other city in the world.  And Irish Gaelic was native to the city for more than 3 generations of Irish Gaelic speakers born and bred in New York.  No wonder that broad 'd' was heard for broad 't', and vice versa, exactly as they are pronounced in Irish. There's a very good reason that the soundex groups T&  D together -- Listeners often mishear either consonant for the other, especially if the better educated "English speaking" official was taking the verbal report from a rural less educated Irish farmer. My example -- I have found the surname Dator as Tator in both a census and city directory in the late 1800s in Mew York City -- and they were born in NYC so it wasn't a problem of a foreign accent. 3. Hello Chris, The records from Mt. St Lawrence give his age at death as 70years, but I know he was baptised on the 9th November, 1798, he was the son of Thomas Byrne & Kate Rice. John married Ann Spring & had children Edward 15th September 1822, Thomas 8.8.1825, Margaret 18thFebruary 1830, Edward Patrick 19th February,1832. These are the only children I know of for them. Son Thomas married Eliza Bennett 3rd November 1847 in the both the church of Ireland & RC St. Michaels. When Thomas married Eliza in Limerick a son Thomas was also baptised, they both lived in Cecil Street. Everything took place in St Michaels RC church in Limerick. I have thought of getting in touch with St. Michaels RC church in Limerick but find it difficult to find a phone number... We were told that in the early years of Civil records, no penalty was?applied for deaths & marriages.? It was only in later years that it was enforced (late 19th century).? Our source was from the Waterford Heritage on Jenkins Lane, in the 1990s.? Assume this was true in all the counties. I have a brick wall caused by a marriage that was never registered. That was in Longford, so it happened all over. Since I look on the death index a lot I am inclined to think the number is higher for deaths. People were probably grieving and didn't want to deal with it. I also noticed that the record might fall into the registration period following the death. I had a headstone with a March date yesterday and found a very good match in April-June. That made sense.
