    1. [IRL-LIMERICK] Registry of Deeds Index Project -- 100, 000 index records from over 12, 000 memorials
    2. Nick Reddan
    3. Fellow Researchers With the continued efforts of our magnificent index volunteers the number of index entries on the project websites has surpassed 100,000. Thus we have 100,000 record that we can search for free using the search page: http://members.pcug.org.au/~nickred/deeds/search_index.html The Registry of Deeds contains an immense amount of data useful for genealogists. While it has often been considered inaccessible the Registry of Deeds Index Project is gradually, through the contributions of its volunteers, making the records more accessible. There are millions of names in the registry and the index project has only 100,000 and thus has a long way to go. Nevertheless, this is an important milestone for the project. Like all indexes the project index entries will have some errors. Hopefully, these are minor and do not detract from the substantial progress made in publishing a full name index. Anyone can contribute index entries using a number of channels including emailing spreadsheets and other documents to the webmaster, and through a web form. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~registryofdeeds/forms/make_abstract.htm If you have not looked at the Registry of Deeds you may be interested in a number of guides: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~registryofdeeds/guides/index.html http://www.johngrenham.com/ITtraining/links/ Please feel free to cross post this to other Irish mailing lists. 1. [IRL-LIMERICK] my Limerick surnames BARRY and BOYLE
    2. Kerryn Taylor
    3. I have just found a baptism record which would fit my gg grandmother, Catherine BARRY. Her Australian records only state that she was from Limerick. Her marriage certificate in Australia (1853) only lists her father - John BARRY, occupation servant. Western Australian dictionary of biographies has her mother's name as Mary BOYLE but I don't know the actual source of this information. She came to Australia (Fremantle WA) on the ship Travancore in 1853 The baptism record is for the 10 March 1831, Parish/District - St. Mary's Co. Limerick. Roman Catholic denomination. Father - John Barry, Mother - Mary Boyle No sponsors or informants. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I may find further Limerick information? Kerryn

    1. Re: [IRL-LIMERICK] my Limerick surnames BARRY and BOYLE
    2. Geralyn Barry
    3. Kerryn, you asked about where to find "further Limerick information". What kind of thing are you hoping to find? If your John Barry was a servant (or was that his daughter Catherine's occupation?), he probably did not create very many records beyond church records: his own baptism and marriage and baptisms of his children. If you are lucky, you can perhaps find those. I have an interest in Barrys of County Limerick, and I can tell you from experience that it is often very difficult to figure out whether a particular record for a "John Barry" applies to your John Barry or to some other man with the same name, especially if he was a servant or laborer. If he had a very unusual occupation, it is a bit easier. There were just too many men by that name in Limerick (and Cork Barrys sometimes strayed into Limerick also). I can at least tell you where the name of Catherine Barry's mother Mary Boyle appears in Australian records: in Catherine's *church* marriage record. I found this extraction in FamilySearch at https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XTZ6-PQ4 "Australia, Marriages, 1810-1980," Catharinam Barry, 1853 Groom's Name: Georgium Adams Bride's Name: Catharinam Barry Marriage Date: 19 Jun 1853 Marriage Place: Fremantle, Perth, Western Australia, Australia Groom's Father's Name: Edwardi Adams Groom's Mother's Name: Susanna Morice Bride's Father's Name: Joannis Barry Bride's Mother's Name: Maria Boyle Groom's Marital Status: Unknown Bride's Marital Status: Unknown Indexing Project (Batch) Number: M00388-5 System Origin: Australia Source Film Number: 1363695 Reference Number: P3 CN9 Source Citation "Australia, Marriages, 1810-1980," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XTZ6-PQ4 : accessed 3 July 2012), Catharinam Barry, 1853. The film number above refers to the following microfilm held by the Family History Library: Catholic church records of Fremantle, 1850-1973 authors: Catholic Church. St. Patrick's (Fremantle, Western Australia) format: Manuscript/Manuscript on Film language: English, Latin publication: Salt Lake City, Utah : Filmed by the Genealogical Society of Utah, 1983-1998 physical: 3 microfilm reels : 35 mm. Notes Microfilm of records at St. Mary's Cathedral, Perth, Western Australia. Text in Latin and English. So, it seems her mother's name is listed in her church marriage record. Another couple (not yours) named John Barry and Mary Boyle had children much later in County Limerick, including a Catherine whose birth was registered in 1868 in Limerick City. I think she might be the one who died in Chicago, Illinois, USA in 1939 as Catherine Schulze (married name)... Probably no connection to yours - just a coincidence of names, which is one of the "joys" of Irish research! Have you explored the 11 entries at IFHF for birth/baptism records where the parents are John Barry and Mary Boyle? Some of those are for the later couple. A couple did not always have all their children baptized in the same church. I have many examples of this from my own research. So do not discount the possibility that you might find other children of the same couple born or baptized in other parishes or even in other counties in Ireland, and perhaps even in other countries (e.g., England, Scotland). 3. Happy Canada Day : It was a day to make us proud in our own quiet way. Our genealogy brings us much closer to the trials our ancestors had in developing this country. My g-grandfather David McAuliffe, originally from Co. Limerick, carved his farm out of "The Queen's Bush" near Durham, Ontario. My g-grandfather Andrew Fogarty from Co Kerry (name originated in Tipperary) expanded his farm also near Durham in Glenelg Twp. He originally settled and married in Paris, Ontario before acquiring his land further north. Happy Canada Day weekend to all. Andy McAuliffe, Kitchener. ON

It uses 20 credits to look at the Petty Session and Prison Registers. So you are only going to get 5 documents. I would say stay away from the Civil B, M & Ds. I found them only to be the index. The confusing part to me is that the Petty sessions tell you the other person involved and I assume the Prison Registers do too. In other words, I see one prison record on familysearch naming Ellen Devine as the victim. It does not say who attacked her. From looking at the Petty Sessions I know it was the man next door, Patrick Casey, who was probably a relative. I learned a lot from putting the various Casey men together. So, to me that is a pretty big thing to lose in translation. I have not had time to check out whether there was any way to be able to figure out who the defendant and plaintiff both were on familysearch. FMP does have a couple of Pay as you Go options. To view a court record is 20 credits. I think the cheapest option was about $11. I was looking at the options. FMP has the actual page image. I hope that helps.
