I am trying to find their Parish in Limerick. > Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. > Have you tried any cemeteries in Ontario, whereever your family lived? I have ancestors that settled in Thorold (near St Catherine's) and found their gravestones mentioned the town and county in Ireland and England where they were born. From looking at other tombstones, I saw that most had towns where born. Maybe it was a tradition at the time. You might try contacting the public library in the Ontario town and see if they have a genealogy section in their library. When I was in Thorold last summer, I discovered a wonder source. They had all the old newspapers on film and one could scan and copy to a disc or just print. When I got home I discovered one of the stories I thought I copied was not on my drive so I wrote the librarian and she copied the story and sent it to me attached to an email. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

Pat; I am looking for a Edward Cronin and Mary Flanagan and family who had a daughter Bridget Cronin who emigrated to Canada and married John Shutler in 1853 in Ontario. Pat: After reading about additions to your website and the Limerick surname list, I'm wondering if you are interested in names of anyone who came from Limerick or just those connected to your family. I recently donated the genealogy report on my McAuliffe Family from Newcastle West via England to Ontario, Canada, to both the Grey Roots (Grey County, Ontario) and the Durham Public Library Archives. So far, I have not submitted a genweb to Ancestry.ca or com, although some relatives have passed on some of my work to those websites under their own connecting family names. Andy > 3. I am interessted in looking up the MCINISS surname in Ireland. Can you > suggest some addresses that might be useful? > Depends on what you are looking for, Jim. You can check the Griffith's Valuation index: http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.htm You can search the tithe applotment indexes on my website. Use the google search button on the Limerick page to make your search easier. I just searches my site. You can search the 1901 and 1911 Ireland censuses to see where the name is found: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ These are just a few suggestions, I am sure the good people on this list can list some more place to look. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

If you have names in the registries and your email address and/or your data has changed, remember to update the registries so people can contact you. You do that by submitting a new form and putting the new info in the field(s) that need changing and putting CHANGE also in the field. Don't forget to add the surname(s) so I can find it. I also added three neat advertisement where tenants from both Abington and Rathkeale added their names to an issue. You can find them under the Land Records category. Many thanks to Andrew Pierce from MA for sending them to the website. I have not fully updated the site, ran out of time today. As far as I am aware Larry, the period before in Irish Military history would be held by the National Archives in England. To whomever Margaret was addressing: My Rowles family from Clonteen, Doon emigrated in 1850, but appear in the GV (farm 23, I think). When they left the land was transferred to a family named Fitzgibbon and was occupied by a descendant of that family named Gerald Lonergan in 1995 when we visited there. You might get some information about whether your Michael was related to them if someone of that name is still there. Try the phone book or the post office, or better, the historical society or _http://www.doonbleisce.com/_ (http://www.doonbleisce.com/) A search of 118.ie white pages turned up 7 Lonergans, none in Doon but one in Cappamore (which Clonteen is in now) and one in Pallasgreen which is next to Doon. There are 17 Fitzgibbons listed in the county but they are all in the city. Ann Lamb In a message dated 8/7/12 12:31:20 A.M. Valerie and Andy, I have Fitzgibbon in my line and am willing to share info. Not sure where in Ireland they originated but, they were here in Chicago. This still definately works! I use it all the time. You need not to click on the button where it costs you credits, for instance you put in name and see how many hits you get then add fathers name/mothers name see how many hits you get add date see how many hits you get, you can narrow it down really well but only look at the ones that you have narrowed down. I hope that makes sense? Thanks to everyone on this list and Co-Tipperary for their helpful answers to my Irish newbie questions. Everytime I learn something new, I have more questions!! But that's what makes the journey so interesting. Pat
You might also try the free website www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation (I think that is the full url). They have images of the ordnance survey maps which pop up and can be moved around with a mouse after you search for names in griffiths. I don't think you can print the maps, except by a print-screen command, but the borders and numbering of plots correspond to griffiths entries - I found them very useful to visualize the location of plots and borders of (historical) townlands, etc. I also found I needed a good browser as the images are very large (flash?) files. Since they are "powered by google," I used Google Chrome browser with good results.
