Kerry: (not Kelly). Are the Glin School Records posted ona any website as yet? Andy McAuliffe, Kitchener, ON., Canada
Kelly: With impaired vision at the moment, I can't overlook any possible help. My wife's g-g-grandfather Michael Conway and wife Bridget Mulvihill were rumoured to have come from Glin,Cty Kerry. So far I've not been able to confirm that. Their son John was born in August 1864 in Arnprior, ON. (near Ottawa). Michael supposedly came to Canada / America with two brothers. The family mainly worked in the bush in Renfrew-Douglas area. Thanks for any help you can give from the Glin School Records at your convenience. Andy McAuliffe, Kitchener, ON.,

Hi Melody, This book was first published in 2003.It covers a period from early 1800 to mid 1900 or there abouts.I am sorry it does not have a Roberstown graveyard index. Yes, I had found that information about the Robertstown-Foynes-Shanagolden Parish. Sean, You mention that you have a history/book of the joint parishes, "The Barony of Shanid, a short History of Shanagolden, Foynes and Robertstown" by Tom Culhane. When was this history published? What years does it cover? Does it have an index listing for the Robertstown graveyard? Thanks. Also does anyone know of any other Robertstown in Ireland that lies near the Shannon River? Thank you. Hi Carla, IF you do a Google search for "glin castle" you will find several websites with info on the castle with pictures etc. You will also find that it is a family run 4 star hotel, open only in high season. As to what you might say I am no expert, but keep it simple and to the point. That, in general, is not true. It may be in some specific areas. I have been looking at some Carlow parish registers and in places they go back to 1750. The registers I looked at began around 1813-15. Civil registration began in 1864. Don't give up on parish registers though. Also, Catholics were often buried in Church of Ireland graveyards until after the repeal of the Penal Laws. On 15/02/2008, Judith Mason <judith.mason@ameritech.net> wrote: > > George, > > Thank you. Hi Cris There is no Langan or Carrig's but that is not to say that there were no families of such, as they may have attended another school like Clonleharde or Balligiltenane hedge school. These records are not from a book Cris and are from a private collection of records I have from some twenty-five years, or more of working with resources that myself and others have gathered around Glin, many of the records I put together were available from the Glin Heritage Centre. One day I was looking at old letters the Knight of Glin gave me from Thomas F Culhane to do something with to preserve them, this was the start of the first manuscript on "Home Thoughts from Abroad" then added to from other local writers. I am presently writing a book on many of the families that settle in Australia from Glin and Ballyhahill covering the first convicts from the district, beginning with the united Irishmen like Phillip Cunningham from Moyvane who was executed, Paddy Galvin and Thomas Langan who returned to Glin in 1816, he was blind by then. His father was John Langan, of Glenagragara Glin, and his mother Ellen Culhane. Sorry, enough rambling on if your line ties into Thomas Langan I do have many of his records and correspondence. Hi Kerry Thank you very much..Im sorry I got the discussion of a book and your collection confused. Thats alot of long hard work.. I dont not know if Thomas is related to my LANGAN'S because I dont ven know where to begin in Ireland. I have baptisms in Askeaton, but other than that I know absolutely nothing about my great grandparents in Ireland except for their names, Mauirce LANGAN and Margaret KENNELLY -KENEALLY (etc) LANGAN so thought I'd check. Thank you again. I appreciate it. Cris Atwater California
