    1. Re: [IRL-LIMERICK] Irish Travel
    2. Patrick, I haven't been there since 1999, but if you are going to do research, allow plenty of time in Dublin. It seems to me I had to get a permit for the microfilm room at the National Library and had to wait for the appropriate time to do so. By the time I got setup to do any research, half the day was gone. If you plan to just visit areas, again, allow a LOT of time at each place. I scheduled our trip as if these places were in the US connected by major highways. First of all, the large breakfast you'll get at the B&B will give you a slow start. Then the narrow roads and frequent towns will cause you to drive slower than you anticipated and you may arrive mid-afternoon. You find that you better get lunch before the places close (not like McDonalds, open all day). All of a sudden you find that it's late in the afternoon and you haven't even started to look around. I'm not complaining, it was my own fault for not planning a more leisurely trip. I was trying to see too much in the one trip to Ireland. So slow down and enjoy your heritage. By the way, if you trace your Enrights back to a Michael Enright who married Mary Shanahan before 1815, please let me know. Several of their descendants (mine included) emigrated in the late 1840s to Canada and then later on to Minnesota. Rita In a message dated 2/18/2008 2:13:27 P.M. Pacific Standard Time, irl-limerick-request@rootsweb.com writes: Hi listers, I am planning a trip to Limerick this July. I have booked a flight and a B&B for my stay. I plan to visit some cousins in the Clarina, Kildimo, Patrickswell,Ballybrown, Tervoe area. I'm searching for Enright relatives of my Dad, John Enright who was born in Newtown on Nov. 11, 1888. I will also check out my Mom's place of birth, Shrule, Mayo. Her maiden name was Rushe. I would appreciate any travel tips or suggestions as I am a recruit to this. The last time I did any traveling the US Army paid for it. Thank you all. Pat Patrick Enright **************Ideas to please picky eaters. Watch video on AOL Living. 1. Re: [IRL-LIMERICK] Bounty Immigration Lookup Patti
    2. Kerry
    3. I am confused Patti, I am doing look ups for Bounty immigration to Australia NSW 1828 to 1842 which is a CD. And also 'A Pauper Warren' a book written by Gerard Curtain of Ballyhahill about the famine in the Shanagolden/Ballyhahill district. Then I am writing a book called 'The Shannon to The Crooked' which among many other families covers two Purtell families both convicts from Limerick to Australia and one became a very large squatter. I am assuming that you are interested in the book 'A Pauper Warren' there is a mention of a James Purtill as there are four pages on him it is too much to type out and not fair re copyright. So I will give you a brief description it's about agents to landlords evicting their tenants and occupying such lands. On November 22 1848, James Purtill and his brother Michael's house was attacked along with Ellen, Michael, Pat and Thomas Liston. This was around Moneymohill and Whiskeyhall (Finnoo) pp 56, 57, 65, 66 if this relates to your family it maybe worth getting the book from a library. Kerry If you come across this line I would be most grateful Anne Culhane a servant girl born in Co Limerick in 1809 she was sent to trial in Limerick on the 30 August 1830 for sheep stealing and convicted to seven years transportation. Anne arrived at Port Jackson aboard the vessel Hooghley in 1831, the following year she married convict John Purtell in 1832 at St Mary's Sydney ----- Original Message ----- From: "Patti" <phacht@peoplepc.com> To: <IRL-LIMERICK@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, February 18, 2008 2:31 PM Subject: [IRL-LIMERICK] Bounty Immigration Lookup Request > You don't happen to have any Purtell, Purtile or Purtill families in your > book do you? > > Thank you, > > Patti > Lakeville, MI > USA > > ________________________________________ > PeoplePC Online > A better way to Internet > http://www.peoplepc.com > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > IRL-LIMERICK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > -- > Internal Virus Database is out-of-date. > Checked by AVG Free Edition. > Version: 7.5.516 / Virus Database: 269.19.7/1233 - Release Date: > 19/01/2008 6:37 PM > >

    2. Bonita Evjen
    3. I'm looking for information about my grandfather's parents. They were John Reedy/Reidy from Kelmeedy area, and Bridget Leary/ O'Learyfrom the same area. They were married in Kilmeedy in Sept. of 1862. Her parent were Thomas Leary/O'Leary and Julia Fitzpatrick. The wedding document is Reidy and Leary. They had 5 surviving children between 1862 and 1874. John immigrated in 1874 to America and Bridget followed in 1875 with the children. Bridget's name is spelled Reidy on the ship manifest. They are believed to have had a couple children die in infancy. After they immigrated the spelling was Reedy. Their children born in Ireland were Jeremiah - March 1863, John - June 1864 , Mary - March 1866/67, Bridget - Nov 1868, James - July 1874 How would I get info on this family Bonni Any Society that would give up liberty for a little security, will deserve neither and loose both. 1. Re: [IRL-LIMERICK] Michael & Norry Hayes
    2. Patricia McGill
    3. Hallo Judith There may be a connection with your Norry and Michael. Michael and Honoria (Norry)/Anne) left Ireland in 1839 for Australia. Their two daughters, Mary, aged 10 and Ellen aged 6 (or thereabouts) arrived in 1840 aboard the "Adam Lodge". Honoria died in 1896 and according to Honoria's death certificate, she was from County Clare and Michael was from County Limerick. I cannot determine exactly when and where Michael died but according to information received it was in 1881 in Bathurst (a regional city in New South Wales). According to H's death certificate, her maiden name was McInerney and she was married in County Limerick circa 1822. The only other piece of information regarding Norry was that her father's name was Lawrence/Laurence McInerney. Mother's name was unknown. According to her death certificate she had 15 children but I suspect some of those may not have made it out of Ireland. Her daughter, Anne was born at Connell's Pains, a village near Bathurst in 1849. Anne is my great grandmother who married Christopher Byrne in Goulburn, regional New South Wales in 1869. Christopher was Irish and arrived in Australia, aged 13, in 1858 with one of his uncles and sponsored by another who was living at Goulburn. Does any of this information match your information? 1. [IRL-LIMERICK] FREWENs of Coolreiry, Castleconnell
    2. Brian M. Carr
    3. Hi Folks, To answer George Kelly's query about St. Joseph Catholic Church, Castleconnell, Father Minogue in 1999 told me that there was a fire that consumed the parish records prior to 1850. Therefore, I could not find the baptism record of my great-grandfather John Browne FREWEN who was born in 1841 nor that of his siblings born between his parents' marriage in 1838 in St. John's Cathedral, Limerick and 1850. This number could be as much as 5 or 6. The first entry in the parish records of Thomas and Margaret FREWEN's offsprings I could find was Patrick's baptism on St. Patrick's Day 1851. Pat's entry in 1851 is followed by: Elizabeth A. Frewen 27 July 1854 Margaret Frewen c.9 Sept. 1857 Stephen Frewen c.12 July 1860 Catherine L. Frewen 12 June 1864 Of these known children John was the first to emigrate in 1862. He ended up in Philadelphia where he was a stone polisher and a blacksmith. He was later joined by his brother Pat who partnered with him in the blacksmith venture. Elizabeth emigrated to New York City . More about her later. Catherine emigrated to Chicago where she married a Clare native and schoolmaster named (?) Mulbrandon. They had one son named Charles (b.1905). After an early widowhood she returned with her son back to the Coolreiry, Castleconnell dairy farm in the 1920ies. There is a story that Stephen was ordained a priest and joined a religious order whose motherhouse was to the south of Castleconnell, probably in Co. Cork. Elizabeth, known as "Aunt Lizzie" in the Philadelphia CARRs was my grandmother , Mary Aloysius (nee Frewen) CARR's aunt. She made it big when money was to be made (before income taxes). In the 1900s she owned a hairdressing business @ 529 Fifth Ave., cattycorner from the NYC Public Library's main location. She married a much younger dentist named (?) HUBBARD. I tried to look up his dentist license @ the Museum of Industry but failed to find it. She started a cosmetics business registered as HUBBARD'S GRECIAN CREAMS manufacturing cole cream... I am still looking for a jar of that. The HABBARDs purchased a mansion ??? (I haven't seen it ) on Summit Road, Port Washington, Nassau County , NY. In 1910 a Canadian named Florence Nightingale Graham started a partnership with Aunt Lizzie in the Fifth Ave., beauty salon. I believe the partnership was short lived with Florence hiring a sign painter to replace Aunt Lizzie's surname with the name ARDEN. Therefore our Aunt Lizzie is the Elizabeth in " ELIZABETH ARDEN " . Her final venture in life was the HUBBARD HOTEL CO. which owned and managed three hotels : The University Hotel (located in the 60s), a second of unknown name, and "The Wentworth", now known as the "Quality Inn Midtown" @ 59 W. 46th Street, NYC. Aunt Lizzie died 16 January 1923 and is buried in an unmarked grave with her brother, Pat, and sister-in-law, Mary, in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery , Glenside, (Phila.) PA. I would appreciate any help in locating Dr. Hubbard's professional license, the real estate records for the Summit Rd. residence, and their Catholic marriage records. Brian M.
