    1. Re: [IRL-LIMERICK] General Question on Irish Wills
    2. Thanks Elaine and Viriginia too...I thought your idea was great and went scurrying back to read the will (yet again) and then...duh...it dawned on me that the wife is conspicuously ABSENT in the will; she is not mentioned at all (silly of me not to notice that I guess) but there ya go. I don't know if I dare assume she pre-deceased him or not but what other reason could there be? What is horribly frustrating is this will was transcribed in 1981 by a professional genealogist and he made no notation of where he obtained it and although this genealogist appears still to be living and working in Co Kildare, Ireland, he has not answered either my emails to him nor my snail mail so I'm left wondering if he totally made this will up! And I guess that brings me to my answer to Marie...I have no idea where you look for Irish will indexes--one would suppose in the local courthouses themselves just as we do here in the US. Any pointers, anyone? -------------- Original message from mattse165 <mattse165@paradise.net.nz>: -------------- I think the same as Virginia. 1. [IRL-LIMERICK] Ireland Old news
    2. Hi Listers I posted this recently but thought Id give it another shot since I've been having trouble with my email bouncing lately. Itreid going through the archives but boy are there alot of posts for this list ! whew! In browsing I found something I dont understand in the "Ireland (or is it Irish??) Old News" .Im hoping someone can help me. An article dated November 25 1852 says, in part, "the eviction of 25 families off the "lands of Langan" and Moyne." Who, what and / or where are the lands of Langan? is that a place or a person. One of my surnames is LANGAN. Someone kindly sent me a link to check surnames but what I'm really trying to find out is if the "lands of Langan and Moyne" was a place...or was Langan the people they were refering to? If it is a place can someone tell me where it is? Thank you again, Cris

    1. [IRL-LIMERICK] Canada marriage help needed please & thank you Virginia
    2. Hi Virginia & List Thank you very much for your reply Virginia. I guess the power outage messed me up today, actually my mailbox wasnt full so I dont know what happened. I have the following information that was sent to me, it has everytihng on it, but unfortunatley I cant remember which ist the person who sent it to me is on ( Andy P. are you on this list??) so I dont know where they got this information. I have also included an excerpt from another source which I know is incorrect. If anyone has any clues how I might find where this information was found perhaps I can look it up and see it or send for it. Although I don't know where to send for it or if I can.Can anyone advise me on that also. Thank you very much. (*Thank you Andy P. for this) next I find Margaret Curry's "History of Platte County Nebraska" says that James came to the US in 1848 and married Ellen in Montreal Canada in 1857. Then I find, and I forget where I think Andreas history of Nebraska. I omitted some.. the 7th of Dec was when their child was born (supposedly) <snip> .......7th of December, 1857, his parents being James and Ellen (Langan) Carrig, both of whom were natives of Ireland. They had five children, of whom but two are now living. The Carrig and Langan families both emigrated from Ireland to the United States as passengers on the same sailing vessel in 1850 and were three months in crossing the Atlantic. James Carrig, who was a farmer by occupation, was married at Urbana, Ohio, and afterward removed to Illinois but in August, 1859, came west to Nebraska, settling in Platte county. He lived there for a period of forty-one years, following agricultural pursuits and as one of the earliest settlers of the district witnessed many of those stirring scenes of pioneer life which have become almost a forgotten dream of the past......" and it continues with his biography
