    1. Re: [IRL-LIMERICK] forgot to ask
    2. Again use the Ire-Atlas Database mentioned previously. If it doesn't come up as a townland with your spelling then use only the first portion of the word and chose the option to only match beginning. Also if it won't come up as a townland--try it as a parish, etc. Another site I have found very easy to use is: http://www.traveljournals.net/explore/ireland/locations/a/index/1.html You have to click on beginning letter of the place you are looking for then you'll get another list with from and to places listed - decide where it falls alphabetically in the listings, click that and finally you'll get to where you need to go. -------------- Original message from "Marie Goforth-Allen" <kentucky@frontiernet.net>: -------------- > I forgot to ask where Ballinlena is located. 1. Re: [IRL-LIMERICK] Cappanihane
    2. Marie, Use the Ire-Atlas Townland Database to look things like this up: http://www.seanruad.com Type in Cappanihane in Townland (making sure to use a capital "C") Then select County Limerick Up pops your info Next google Cappanihane and get a map and then ask it for directions to Castletown and you will know exactly how far apart they are. To find a family living in Limerick during 1800-1860 try looking them up on the Griffith's Valuation which occurred during this period: http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php Enter you Surname (or just the first part of it) Select County Limerick and then weed through what you get back. Also go to the Limerick City Council Local Studies page and look for your surname in all the many databases you will find there http://www.limerickcity.ie/CityLibrary/LocalStudies/ Hope this helps! Kathy --------- Original message from "Marie Goforth-Allen" <kentucky@frontiernet.net>: --------- Can anyone tell me where Cappanihane is located and the proximity to Castletown- Conyers? Also, how would one go about finding the family of a person living in County Limerick in the 1800-1860 time period? I have looked and I have decided I just don't know where to look. Help please. Thanks, Marie

    2. Kathleen Berg
    3. After thousands of emails from this group (literally) I finally have a name I can respond to... :) I have a great-great aunt (Mary Mangan nee Russell) who married Michael J. Mangan in Cook County in 1888. She died in 1957 (Cook County) and was survived by her husband and Lillian, Edward, Florence, Joseph, and the late Daniel, John, and William. I'm not sure if all of these children were her and Michael's or if they were step-children. It may have been a misprint but in her obituary it says, "Mary Mangan, nee Russell, beloved wife of the late Michael J.; dear father of Lillian, Edward, Florence, Joseph, and the late Daniel, John, and William." It just seems odd that none of these children are named after her father (Patrick R. Russell), brother (Robert Patrick Russell) or mother (Mary Ellen Russell nee Barrett). Since the names I've been researching are RUSSELL and BARRETT this is the only information I have with respect the the MANGAN name. Kathy B. 1. [IRL-LIMERICK] James Carrig-Ellen Langan marriage
    2. Lawrence Barrett
    3. Sorry I posted to wrong list before seeing my error. Hi All I've somehow lost the thread on this topic . Too much e-mail and many deletes. Is it Bernard looking for that particular marriage entry?? Whomever it is ,I will be going to the Ontario Archives one day this coming week and if you need a lookup on a reel ,I can try to get it for you. I believe I have the pertinent info but if you would like to give it to me again ,I'll try to locate their marriage.I think I tried this on Ancestry.ca and came up with snake eyes. I ordered a microfilm through my local library last Sept. from the Archives. Since then I've questioned my library many times as to its potential arrival date. Last week I got fed up and phoned the Archives and after reaching the interlibrary loan guru was told that this particular microfilm is not for interlibrary loan and can only be viewed in there reading room. Dah!! She said that she had notified my local library to that effect. Lawrence On.Can. They did have an option of a free 14 day trial (don't know if they are still doing that or not) But I found tons of stuff during my free 14 days. Wish I could afford subscription - seems like a great site alredy and it apparently is just going to keep getting better. -------------- Cris Wrote -------------- Is that what this footnotes.com was?

    1. Re: [IRL-LIMERICK] Ordering Perogative Will from NAI Question
    2. Nick, Have my form filled out to request that Perogative Will that John found for me on Michael Shanahan but have a Q before I send it off.... Since original copies of all but 1 Consistorial and 11 Perogative wills (see http://www.from-ireland.net/gene/wills.htm) were burned up the the PRO/Four Courts office in 1922 fire and what the NAI presently has (but for those 12 original wills mentioned above) are ABSTRACTS done by Sir William Betham in 1810...what I am going to get from NAI is Betham's extract of this will, not the original Perogative Will ....is that correct? Also still slightly confused here--my abstract of this will done by H. McDowell gives date of death as 29 Apr 1811, proved 16 Mar 1830 (and recs John pulled agrees with that Date of Grant/Proof being 16 Mar 1830 but indicates Date of Will as 1830) which makes no sense if he really died in 1811 since you can't write a will after you are gone! But you know what really doesn't make sense is the fact that since Betham did his abstracts in 1810 unless this will was actually originally filed in or before 1810-it wouldn't have been there for Betham to abstract it(!) Is it possible that this will is one of the 11 Perogative Wills that the NAI has the original of????? (Dare I hope?) Is there a list somewhere of who the 12 original wills that survived the fire belonged to? Kathy P.S. Will the NAI take an American Express Traveler's check drawn in EUROS? P.P.S. Have you personally ever seen a Betham abstract of a Perogative Will? If so, did it include the names of the witnesses? This is the info I am lacking on the abstract H. McDowell did for my family... if the Betham extracts don't include witness info either, there isn't much point in me ordering a copy of this will. -------------- Original message from Nick Reddan <nickred@webone.com.au>: -------------- John Almost all prerogative will were destroyed in the Four Courts fire in 1922. Sir William Betham made abstracts of most prerogative wills and administrations prior to 1800. Betham extracts are available through the Mormon Family History Library service. Sir Arthur Vicars published an index to the prerogative wills of Ireland up to 1810. <snip>

    3. Hi Cris- Sometimes it pays to be a late riser, because I see other people have given you some good info, and you now know there's a Family History Center near you! Mine is half an hour away, but it's open 2 nights per wk, and that's all I need. The marriage info Andy sent you came from a database on ancestry.com. I clicked on the "further information" that appears for it, and it states that a "more detailed electronic transcript" can be obtained by contacting transcripts@ingeneas.com, and telling them what you'd like. This is something I've never done, and I have no idea how much it costs, or how much more information you would be able to get. I do know that ingeneas.com is a separate, independent website, which by sheer coincidence, I discovered a few days ago in doing my own research. Maybe other listers have dealt with them? I'd be interested in whatever they tell you, as I might someday want to use their service too. 3. Cris, very few towns have a Family History Center. Most of us have to travel a distance to use one. If you go to this web page http://www.familysearch.org/ there is a place part way down on the left where there is a white box: "Find a Family History Center Near Your Home." If you put your town in there, you might be able to find which one is closest to you. The FHC I use attracts people from quite a distance.
