Maureen, If you call up Google Maps and search for Bruff, Limerick, Ireland it will show you that Brackvoen is just south of Bruff. The site doesn't recognise Brackvoen if you type it in although it is shown on the map. Alternatively have a look at Michelin Maps I think that site recognises the name. Thanks John, There are many "Newtowns" Being local I wrote without checking the map. I have now checked the map and the "Newtown" to the South west of Bruff is in fact Newtownshandrum. Hi Maureen, At the time of the Griffith's Valuation in Limerick in 1851 there was a Patrick Leonard in the Civil Parish of Bruff in the town of Bruff. There was no Robert Leonard at that time in all of Limerick. Also, with respect to Kelly there was within the Civil Parish of Bruff a John Kelly, T/L of Newtown, and a Patrick and a Thomas from Brackvoen. If it was me I would look to see how close Brackvoen and Newtown was to the town of Bruff. This may give you some indication as to where they were actually from. Hi.all, Our g.grandparents, Michael Woulfe & Margaret Purcell were married in St. Marys Parish Limerick on May 1st. 1863. Both were Catholics. Could someone please tell me what church the ceremony would have taken place at as I believe that St. Marys Parish would not necessarily mean St. Marys Cathedral. Thanks in advance. Regards Frank Wolfe.
Hello I am new to this list and am researching my gggrandparents Patrick Leonard and Margaret nee Kelly. I believe Patrick's father may have been Robert Hickson Leonard. They were married in the RC Church in Bruff in 1849 and their son Joseph was born in 1853. In 1854 they emigrated to Australia where they had a large family. Any information on the Leonard family from Bruff, Limerick would be greatly appreciated. Hi Liz The marriage record is short on extended detail - it ony records the surnames of the bride and groom's respective fathers. I do have another marriage record which has Mary Kearney as one of the witnesses for the marriage of Michael Hayes and Judith Fahy in Kilbehenny, Co Limerick on 25/02/1829. The bride and groom were from the parish of Carrigeen and religion was Roman Catholic. Are these names familiar?
