Thanks Mary Ellen, It is a bit disappointing, but at least I have proof now that they did in fact come from the Bruff area of Limerick. Valerie~ !. If I order a particular certificate via mail, I use the online form which is required and one can use their credit card. The last one, my card was charged $ 14. American, this was last spring and the exchange was much better than it is now. If you order by mail from a particular county, they will not do credit cards. At the website, you will find instructions for how one would pay if they are not using a credit card or using a county office. It can get confusing. About cheaper, that depends on the exchange rate which for Americans, last Sunday was $1.67 = 1 Euro. When I am "home" visiting family in Mayo, I have obtained certificates in Castlebar at the GRO office on North Antrim. Over the years, depending on the exchange rate, I have paid between $8 - 12 American for each certificate. 2. I have no idea what you are referencing. The records the LDS are there, for sacramental the timeline is what a particular parish has that has survived. Civil Records are post 1864. You might find your answer at the LDS website. Hi Mary Ellen The records were from the Roman Catholic Church in the the Parish/District of Bruff in the County of Limerick, but no name of the Church. The names of the Bride and Groom and their RC denomination, their parents only listed with Surnames and then names of the Witnesses and the date of the marriage. That's all. No other info as to where they resided, occupations etc. Maureen > Date: Fri, 7 Mar 2008 17:20:18 -0800 > From: maryln61@sbcglobal.net > To: irl-limerick@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [IRL-LIMERICK] IFHS records > > Maureen~ > Were these sacramental records from a Church or were they Civil Records which for Protestants started in 1845?? > I have the marriage (Civil) for my g grandparents from Limerick City 1862. Hi John The information you have sent me on Michael seems to match up with what I have as far as him being a farmer. I know it asking a lot ,but would you have any dates or where you obtained the information from . Barbara
Dear List, I found a birth/baptism and marriage entry relating to my Leonard ancestors, and consequently purchased them. I was disappointed to find that on the marriage certificate, the bride and groom's parents names were not listed, nor the name of the Church in Bruff. My question is, does the Parish register entry in 1849 for the marriage not include these details, or haven't they been transcribed? It was exciting in one respect to find the records, but disappointing in another; I guess that is Irish genealogy! Thank you for any comments. I am looking for a birth record, marriage record and (possibly) a death record for one George Thompson Hutchinson. I know that he was born in 1844 and I know that he married one Alice Clarke on 22 Dec 1875, and that he died on 31 Jul 1923 in MountShannon. I also know that he was in the Royal Irish Constabulary mostly in Limerick City. He and Alice had eleven children, one of whom was my grandfather. I have found some of the birth records for them on IFHF, but not all. Has anyone got any other suggestions that I might try, or even some evidence? Thanks Chris Jones
Oola [and Oola Hills] is on the Tipp Limerick border. There were Godfrey's in and around Tipperary Town, only a few miles away, so I would expand the search to there also.
