Hi Maureen, I don't know if this will help but have you tried doing a parent search on Familysears.org? Once I found my husbands grandfather and who his parents were then I did a parent search and came up with his siblings. This would have been difficult otherwise as they were German and from Denmark. They can go up upwards of ten different names and them all be their right name. Woods Hi Jan....glad to know you also wrote to Ms. Mitchell. I told her basically the same thing that you did regarding their fees. I have been searching for my grandmother from Cavan for years without success. I do know that the Heritage Center in Cavan has most of her siblings, so I can't figure why not her. I am beginning to think that she had a different first name than we knew her by. I told Ms. Mitchell if they could devise a way to searh for children of a certain set of parents, that would be a great help for most of us. Let's all hope that in time these databases will be available free to search and then we can either pay a membership fee or the cost of the document. I have no problem with that, but this idea of paying for each search is nonsense, especially with the present cost of our devalued dollar. Hope you and the family are doing well. Thank you for this information John. For many years I have been meaning to visit the British Newspaper Library when in London, but have not made it yet, so this is a great alternative!! Some tips for searching this great site (link below): 1) Start with a very specific search criteria: eg: Richard Franklin Ballyvolane then try a more general search such as Franklin Limerick. You can just try a surname as well, but there could be lots of results!! Select "Entire Document" 2) Do not limit the publication dates as you may miss something (as I nearly did by selecting "Before 1865" for example). select "All" instead - it's only a century after all!! 3) If you want to print the item, you can increase the size from 33% to 50% before printing, to make it easier to read, or if it is in the first / left column, you may be able to increase it to 100% without losing any of the article. Before printing check FILE > PRINT PREVIEW to see if your article actually fits within the page, and note what page it is on - its easy to find - its highlighted even in the Preview! You may only need to print page 3 of 5, and not all 5 pages, for example to get your article. 4) Sometimes the actual article does not open completely - eg: only half a column may appear! Just select "View Page" which is next to "View Article" and wait for it to load, then select "View Article" and whenever I have done this the whole article does appear, not just half of it!! 5) The Search criteria you initially entered is highlighted in each article, so it may not be necessary to read / check the whole page HOWEVER I did not see any criteria highlighted on the ONE page more than once, which possibly means there could be other entries on that page. 6) Note, not all newspapers for the 19th Century are on this site. Even papers such as the Freeman's Journal, are not complete, some issues are missing. I have been able to establish that my GGG Grandmother actually existed (finding her obituary!!), found a lovely news item re the townsfolk ploughing the fields after the death of her husband, and finding the name of the second of their four sons!! Thanks to the Belfast News-Letter!! Also found my landed gentry connections - the BEVANs of Camass, Limerick - had an "attempted fratricide" well represented in the ENGLISH papers - even made it into the WELSH papers (in Welsh of course!) Not bad for a days work!! Thank you again John! Thanks Mags. I am aware that many were bapized at home and many, many baptisms were never recorded, or just plain lost. I plan to keep looking as I know her parents...actually I have an oral history which goes back to about 1760. I am really very lucky...it was given to me on one of my trips back to the homeland. Sad to say, I paid 20 Euro for the information below from IFHF, when Limerick Ancestry could have given me the same information years ago when I paid 75 USD. Mike Baptism Records: William O'Brien 23/02/1824 Parish: Hospital Father: Kennedy O'Brien Mother: Margaret O'Donnell Denomination: Roman Catholic Catherine O'Brien 00/03/1829 Parish: Galbally & Aherlow Father: Thomas O'Brien Mother: Ellen Noonan Denomination: Roman Catholic Catherine O'Brien 26/02/1829 Parish: Murroe & Boher Father: Patrick O'Brien Mother: Cath. Malley Denomination: Roman Catholic Catherine O'Brien 05/04/1829 Parish: Kilteely Father: Thomas O'Brien Mother: Bridget O'Sullivan Denomination: Roman Catholic I purchased 40 Euro and used 30 before getting these four at 5 Euro each. The William could be mine based on his obituary stating he was aged 40 in Dec 1864. One of the Catherine's could be mine based on her obituary stating she was 67 on 5 Jan 1897. This is the closest I have come in years to finding my great grand parents, natives of Co Limerick. Mike
