George, speaking of Irish Cemeteris and burials...could you explain something to me? Thomas Clarke Luby's father-in-law was the poet John deJean Frazer (died 1852 and buried in Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin). Found this little "blurb" online about him: "His grave was not secured 'in perpetuity' and a person named Eliza Daly seems to have been buried in it. No stone marks Frazer's grave" Is this fairly common? Do they still do it this way (make you pay for a plot 'in perpetuity')? Or did this just happen to Frazer because he died very very poor? AS a frequent visitor to Utah I have found many Irish buried in their cemeteries. They came to work in the silver mines and some became millionaires. As an example, Thomas Kearns, born in Ontario, but whose parents were both born in Ireland. He became a Senator and built his house in Salt Lake City which is now the Governor's mansion. Hi all, I've just discovered the IFHS database and was overjoyed to find the baptism of my gg grandfather, Jeffery KEATING in 1808 in Fedamore, as well as the burial of (I think) his father, also Jeffery KEATING in 1877 in Croom. Could SKS tell me what info is contained on baptism and burial records? I'm reluctant to get a credit card only to find the info is not worth purchasing from the IFHS, or if it is available elsewhere. I was also wondering if the burial records for Croom have been transcribed? Regards Jan Qld Australia

I recently found a listing of the members of the Limerick Guilds in the Freeman's Journal of October 21, 1840. These include the Cabinet Makers, Guild of Smiths, Ropemaker's Guild, Nailor's Guild, Broguemaker's Guild, Carpenters, Bakers, Fishermen, Founders, Guild of Tobacconists, Pipemakers, Iron Founders, Painters, Coachmakers, Millwrights, Stone Cutters, Woolcombers Guild, Mason's Guild, Weavers, Coopers and Hatters. The occasion was all the Limerick Guilds going forward publicly in support of Daniel O'Connell. I find the page excellent reading. Is this list fully documented already or would people like a copy of the page? Has it been uploaded somewhere? Has it been transcribed? Tom
Could you repost the web address please? Each time I have tried it says there is no page. The standardized form covers both baptism and civil birth registration. The info on a baptism record does not generally include address or occupation,so that this is usually blank.Civil cert does. The Church of Ireland authorities who controlled many of the old rural cemeteries in the 19th century have some records for burials of members of that Church. The Catholic majority of burials in such cemeteries were not recorded. The only full record, that I know of relates to the Mount St Lawrence cemetery in the city. This was controlled by city council rather than Churches, and there is a record of all burials from the 1850's. ----- Original Message ----- From: <littlehouseantiques@att.net> To: <irl-limerick@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, March 21, 2008 2:11 PM Subject: Re: [IRL-LIMERICK] IFHS info? > Jan, > > 4 Baptism Records from Co Limerick that I purchased > had a standardized form with the following fields: > > Name, Address, Gender, Date of Baptism/Birth > Parish/District, County, Denomination, Mother, > Mother's Occupation, Father, Father's Occupation > Sponsor/Informant 1, Sponsor/Informant 2, NOTES > > Not all the info is filled in--none of the 4 I > purchased had either address or occupation of > parents nor any notes. > > Regarding burial records/cemeteries in Croom > area I **think** that there are 4 of them: > > Religh Mhuire (a modern cemetery started mid 1960s) > > Banogue Cemetery (opened 1955; across the road from church; pre 1955 local > people were buried in cemeteries in either the parishes of Croom or > Ballingarry/Granagh) > > Church of Ireland cemetery on Church Rd in Croom (has both Cath. & Prot. > burials) > > Anhid Cemetery (Ballingarry Road in Croom close to the main Cork-Limerick > Road) > > References: > http://www.limerickdioceseheritage.org/Croom.htm > http://www.limerickdioceseheritage.org/Banogue.htm > http://www.croomabu.ie/exponent/index.php?section=1 (pics of churches in > Croom) > http://www.ballyhouracountry.com/bhtowns.asp?town=Croom&bhl1=Tourism > > Searched but couldn't find any online transcripts for any of these > cemeteries; here in the states there is a lot of cemetery transcriptions > being done (local folks go and snap digital photos and upload them to > various sites) but there does not appear to be a whole lot of that sort of > thing going on in Ireland. Kathy~ I was told many years ago by my cousins in Mayo, that this happens with graves whose occupants appear to no longer have family. They said that the reuse of the plot is governed by the County Council. My question then and now that you have brought it up is, how would the County Council make this decision? Perhaps descendants live outside of the Republic and may visit the grave once every 10 years??? I had not hear the term you used "in perpetuity" so Is this like purchasing the plot or paying a rental or a lease. If the fee stops coming, the grave after about 100 years or so can be reused?? Perhaps someone on the list could explain this practice. I actually thought my family was not serious. Have to check this out with them. Mary Ellen Chambers littlehouseantiques@att.net wrote: George, speaking of Irish Cemeteris and burials...could you explain something to me? Thomas Clarke Luby's father-in-law was the poet John deJean Frazer (died 1852 and buried in Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin). Found this little "blurb" online about him: "His grave was not secured 'in perpetuity' and a person named Eliza Daly seems to have been buried in it. No stone marks Frazer's grave" Is this fairly common? Do they still do it this way (make you pay for a plot 'in perpetuity')? Or did this just happen to Frazer because he died very very poor? Hi Everyone. I'm new to the list. I've been lurking, reading, & learning. I have lots of Irish research to do but I was currently looking for a Matthew Flood & Hanorah Braziel (or varient) in Co. Limerick. I had found this for Griffith's before I knew the maiden name of Hanorah: http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/limerick/grean.htm Flood, Matthew, Plaukarauka, Grean, Limerick but having learned her maiden name, and with what I learned on this list, I've also now found these entries at IFHF: ======================================== Parish: PALLASGREEN & TEMPLEBREDON Marriage Flood Matthew 1834 Co. Limerick Parish: PALLASGREEN & TEMPLEBREDON Marriage Brazil Honora 1834 Co. Limerick Variant spellings included in this search: BRAZIL BASILL BRASELL BRASILL BRASSEL BRASSELL BRASSIL BRASSILL BRAZEL BRAZELL BRAZELLE BRAZILE BRAZILL BRAZILLE BRAZZEL BRAZZELL BRAZZIL BRAZZILL BROSELL BROSSELL BRUSSEL O BRAZIL O'BRAZIL Parish: PALLASGREEN Baptism Flood William 1834 Co. Limerick Parish: PALLASGREEN Baptism Flood Michael 1837 Co. Limerick Parish: PALLASGREEN Baptism Flood Mary 1839 Co. Limerick Parish: PALLASGREEN Baptism Flood Edmond 1841 Co. Limerick Parish: PALLASGREEN Baptism Flood Timothy 1843 Co. Limerick [Note: Edward & Edmond are often interchanged] ============================================== The dates don't exactly match up with what I was looking for but they are very close and the names & birth order do match, exactly. Of course, the down side is I can't afford to pay to see all these records, and I'm still not sure of myself after all the money some of you have spent for records you were sure of that turned out wrong. Any ideas of suggestions on what I should do next? Do these records go on sale often? Also, I have to search for another marriage of the same Matthew Flood to an Eleanor Prescott. I have conflicting docs and it may be that there was a second marriage. Thank you. Joanne McKenna ************** Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home.
