What exactly do you get from the IFHF? Do you just get information on the computer screen or can you order an actual paper certificate of some sort? Is the information that's there also available on microfilm from the LDS? Jo ************** Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home. Interesting! I found Kennedy O'Brien listed twice (looks like one senior and one junior) in the Limerick Chronicle of 1832 as land holders. One is listed in Carnagh and the other in Dunmoylan. One of them could be mine and moved Hospital Parish where possibly one had son named William, born in 1824. Any information about their descendents would appreciated. Kathy I am particularly interested in the name 'Charles Hutchinson' in the list, as he could be related to my family. I have not got back as far as 1840 yet, and I believe that most of my Hutchinson's were actually based in Clare. Do you have any further detail on this person, or is there a source available on the web? I have a cemetery map that shows his grave as being pretty close to the O'Connell Crypt (just slightly behind it) and the O'Connell Crypt is right by the Chapel and the Main Entrance, judging from that I don't think you are correct about him being across the road from the main graveyard? Which of the three Glasnevin cemeteries is the O'Connell Crypt in? Do they actually still do this double burial thing in Ireland? George Kelly's comment about Mount St. Lawrence Cemetery Limerick (city) reminded that I have an extraction of all the SHANAHANs buried there (as well as names of folks whose burial plot in that cemetery was paid for by a SHANAHAN). So, started looking them up on IFHF.... Mount St. Lawrence Cemetery Entry: (as copied by my family on trip to Limerick) James Slattery Buried: 1904 Age: 25 years Calculated Birth Date: 1879 Comments: Barrington's Hospital; Plot paid for by an individual whose surname was Shanahan; relationship to deceased unknown. and came up with this on IFHF: Burial Slattery James 1904 Co. Limerick Parish: LIMERICK NO 1 ???????What does Parish LIMERICK NO 1 mean???????? Thnx! Kathy Rhodes
Hi, I don't know if I have any relatives buried there but if I had relatives who lived or died in Utah I would be delighted to know about this website. I just did a check for those with the name Murphy (being quintessentially Irish) and quite a few turned up with no place of birth. It is possible they were born in Ireland. I have noticed on this board and on others that there are those who ask very 'sharp' questions but I am not sure if I have seen any worthwhile contribution from them. They are what we might call hurlers on the ditch! Even though I am not looking for anyone buried there (at this stage anyway) I greatly appreciate the information for what it is - a genuine and positive contribution to someone else's research. There are now three cemetaries in Glasnevin. Each time one became full, they built another one.The date tells me the burial was in Prospect cemetary-across the road from the main graveyard. Prospect was used for double burials as most of those buried there would have no living relatives. If you still have the grave papers, you can claim compansation from the archbishop of Dublin. ----- Original Message ---- From: "littlehouseantiques@att.net" <littlehouseantiques@att.net> To: irl-limerick@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, 21 March, 2008 9:07:22 PM Subject: [IRL-LIMERICK] Irish Cemeteries / Burial Plots / In Perpetuity??? George, speaking of Irish Cemeteris and burials...could you explain something to me? Thomas Clarke Luby's father-in-law was the poet John deJean Frazer (died 1852 and buried in Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin). Found this little "blurb" online about him: "His grave was not secured 'in perpetuity' and a person named Eliza Daly seems to have been buried in it. No stone marks Frazer's grave" Is this fairly common? Do they still do it this way (make you pay for a plot 'in perpetuity')? Or did this just happen to Frazer because he died very very poor?
