    3. I don't know if the Irish censuses are the same, but with the UK censuses you get an explanatory page at the beginning of every batch detailing which route the enumerator took. It's still pretty difficult as in the intervening years some houses may have disappeared and others may have been built. Are there any pubs, shops, businesses like a blacksmith's forge or named houses? They provide a fixed point for you to count from. I've done this in Wales and pinned down my gx3 grandfather to one of two houses - I'm not sure if one of the intervening buildings from the fixed point was one or two households at the time, it is two now, but might have been one then! Joss Dave wrote - Does anyone know how to determine where "House # XX" in that 1911 census would be today? i.e. a map! I am researching Connell/OConnell in Doon and have found some in numbered houses in that 1911 census. Can anyone help direct me to determine where a specific house # would be today in Doon from that census?

    3. Having looked at my one Deposition that relates directly to my family in the right place, and having talked to another person, the Depositions have a lot of information within them that doesn't cross-reference anywhere. Within the Deposition there is a placename and other surnames that do not appear in the Deposition title. I don't have the time, but it would be an excellent project for one or more of you to read the Depositions for your county and post the placename and other surnames to the list referencing the Deposition title involved. Even if you just did a few a day, the project would not take all that long, particulaly if several of you get together to do the county. Maybe we can ask Christina to post the cross-references on her website. Otherwise we will ALL have to read each and every one. Janet

    3. Dave, What can be useful is to compare the street or specific area names with the 1901 census - this may identify the common neighbours On either side - which can assist in this task. I have discovered that in a lot of cases, in ' the house and building' return, the enumerator tended to start at one end of the road in 1901 and then did the opposite in the 1911 census. Take , for example, the Connell family of Gurtavalla North, Doon. In both censuses, they have neighbours named Cronin and Butler on either side of them - even though their own house is numbered 5 in one census and number 9 in the other. Hope this is of help. 3. Shirley Not sure if you have looked up the IFHF site-www.rootsireland.ie.It shows just one Hanora-daughter of a Jeremiah baptised in the city or county close to your date-it's 1864,which may be yours as stated ages often out by many years. The baptism was not in St Michael's.From the names I suspect that her family may have been from west of county, although O'C and Murphy are very common names. It's possible that Hanora was working in the city when she married.Even if living in rural part of county it was fashionable in late 1800's to get married in the main city church of St Michael's.If the latter is the case her marriage cert from 1885 would give the address. The 1864 baptism will give parish and parents and godparents-nothing else. 3. Thanks George, I am doing a side search on this family to determine what connection they had to my ggrandparents O'Connor (John and Catherine) in Ballylongford. Kerry. Hanora and Joe Peon lived close to my ggrandparents in Nashville, TN and my dad always said their daughter, Nora, was his cousin. I have long suspected Jeremiah, Hanora's father, and my gggrandfather Ambrose , (father of Catherine) may have been brothers making Hanora and Catherine (kate) cousins. Your thought that Jeremiah's family was from the west of Limerick is probably accurate if this holds true. Close to the Kerry border I would expect. So I think that marriage license of Hanora and Joe is worth taking a look if it will give me an address. Thanks for that information. You never know what is in the records! If anyone finds a connection, I will be happy to share what I have gleaned from the US records on Hanora and Joe Peon along with some family notes on the O'Connors.
