Dear Joe, Don't give up hope!! These searches remind me of SUDUKO - you may someday find a little link that will lead to a pot of gold! The fun is in solving another little piece.. And you may have info or access to info that can help somebody else's brick wall. Can I suggest that you try variations of the names, if not already done, eg Kathleen, Mary Catherine, Sheehy or Sheahan, even Sheehin, Sometime, in official birth registers, I find the name can be spelt many different ways, even in the same family. Also Gorman can be O'Gorman, Gormin etc..or just initial only for first name. You could try all the counties in Munster.. And then perhaps, Dublin -as some families migrated to ' the Pale' (sorry Maggie), before heading off to the UK or further afield. Best of luck, Sheila Today's Topics: 1. Joe: I learned from one obit. that my g-grandparents had married in Ireland and had two children who died in infancy before immigrating to Canada. A little later the obit. of the g-grandfather said they married in England, with the same infancy deaths. I searched the English Marriage records and there they were. Married in Marylebone, Midd. (London) in 1853. We attended the parish for Mass 150 years after the fact. Won't hurr to try it. Andy in Canada.

Hi, I cannot locate the buriel place of my hubby's ggfather. Family tradition says that Patrick Hanley was from Ardpatrick + is buried there. I have found a baptism record 1846 on roots-ire for the parish of Manister. Could this be right? I see it was once part of the parish of Bruff, not to far from Ardpatrick. Any thoughts? Maggie the Dub
Can anyone tell me if there is any centralised information source, preferably online for RC births in Limerick for the 1820s and for marriages 1843-1851. Regards Joe Austen in OZ
Try this site: http://www.rootsireland.ie/ Register once. Work with county centers (on the left side) and choose Limerick. You can try different names, dates, and scrolling down to different parishes.
Joe, Sheehan and Gorman are also very common Tipperary names and perhaps along the Tipp/Limerick border. Official state records did not start here until 1864 - but church records started in the 1820's in most places. You could try the pay per view site with their records - to narrow it down to an area in Limerick http://www.rootsireland.ie/ Regards Sheila ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Message: 1 Date: Wed, 8 Dec 2010 21:15:29 +1000 >From: "Joe Austen" <[email protected]> Subject: [IRL-LIMERICK] Sheehans and Gormans To: <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" This may be my first posting to this list. certainly the first for a long time, I have very little information but this is what I have managed to piece together. My gg grandfather was David Sheehan, born circa 1825 in Ireland. My gg grandmother Catherine Gorman was born 1823 also in Ireland. According to the 1861 census of Poplar all 5 of their children were born in Middlesex, but none of the births seem to have been registered.Catherine died in 1885, but David lasted until 1898 so I got a clue from the 1891 census, which states that he was born in Limerick. So now I need to try and track a marriage between 1843( when David would have been 18) and 1852 when their oldest daughter was born. I did a search on FreeBMD today and am sure they didn't marry in Britain. The family was Roman Catholic, any clues would be appreciated Regards Joe Austen in OZ ------------------------------
I have both Gormans and Dwyers in my background, too. When we were in Ireland this past September, we were told that both the Ryans and Dwyers who lived in Co. Limerick (Pallasgreen) lived right on the border of both counties. I think the county line was almost an artificial construct which really didn't have much to do with these families. Both counties were in their local area. As Maragret has said, 1977 is near enough to find the details from a number of primatry sources. First, the death cert - which will show her address at time of death and also who registered the death - usually the next of kin, who probably also arranged the funeral. If she was not buried in her late husbands plot, she may have (a) got a new plot or (b) have been buried with her father's/mother's kinspeople. In addition to neighbours, there is the local priests records. Even if you are not being buried in the same parish whree you resided, the local prist there normally p[lays a part in the funeral itself. Good luck. Hi, I am having trouble finding burial information on my grandmother Bridget O'Shaughnessy ( nee Ryan ) who died in 1977 in Limerick. Unfortunately this is one of the years the council do not have records for. So I dont know where she was burried or any other information. According to the Council she is not in the same lair as her husband, who I do have information about. I have also tried the undertakers to see if their records would help, but no luck again. If anyone knows where I may be able to obtain information on where she is buried it would help. Thanks Chris
