Margaret, Lists are generally quiet during the holidays. To check where you are getting your mail, take a look at the list's archive page. There you can see the emails that have been going out. Here is the Limerick list archives for December: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/IRL-LIMERICK/2010-12 If you are not getting the emails, they may be in your Spam folder. Check there. It is probably just the natural slow down as people are busy with other things in December. I am looking for any info on the YOUNG family that lived in Glenosheen Co. Limerick, Ir. in the 1700, maybe 1749. Thank you for any help. Roland Young Fresno, California
The Limerick Museum website is a fantastic resource and if any of you make it to Limerick it is a free museum and wonderful to browse around. It is next to King John's Castle in the city. Margaret, This is an extremely old submission to the Ancestral Files on the LDS site, from a private submitter. It is not backed up by any hard evidence, no sources cited. It was submitted to the site sometime betwen 1978 and 1991, from a resident of Johannesburg, S. Africa. The younger Michael, born in the 1840-42 time period emigrated to New Zealand and married 2 times while there. His first wife was Ellen O'Neil and his 2nd wife was Ellen Eagar. No identified place of death for his parents, Catherine and Michael. The younger Michael died in 1915 in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand. I will have to go through boxes, but I do not believe I found any Keyes (or its variants) in the parish during the time of the Tithes and there are none in there during the time of the Primary Valuation. My hunch is that Michael Sr. somehow ties in with the Keyes families you find in either Galbally or Ballingarry civil parishes that are around that Ballylanders area. Ballylanders parish records start relatively soon after young Michael's birth, and I'd have expected to see more children for the couple if they were indeed in this parish. You might try Galbally, as its parish records are considerably older, as are the parish registers for that side of Ballingarry civil parish (Knocklong Catholic parish). If you would like, I can give you a fairly lengthy list of kids for young Michael with his 2 wives, again, all were born in New Zealand. The oldest child, with the Eagar spouse, is the one who wound back up in S. Africa. It appears the rest of the family may have stayed in New Zealand. Let me know if I can help further. Your query caught my eye because I have Kennys, Caseys, and Gearys/Guirys in this parish. Have you used the following site? http://www.rootsireland.ie/ If you have not used it before, just register once. On the left go to county genealogy centers and when the map comes up click Limerick. Put in 1843 for Ballylanders and put in the name Michael Keyes. There was one who was baptized there in 1843. (I thought records for Ballylanders did not begin that early, but it would be worth ordering this record). You can then play around with the site and put in other names. I hope this is your Michael. To various good folks on this message: 1.I have an old (date unknown) postcard of Rathkeale showing the street, houses, a few people, bicycles and carts. I would be glad to share it online. There is a message...undated and unsigned on the reverse side indicating that the writer had lived in Rathkeale, Limerick. Wish it had more info. 2. My ggrgrandmother, Mary Ann O'Connor, was born on Williams Street in Limerick City July 21, 1844 to John O'Connor and his wife Mary O'Mara O'Connor. Mary Ann's older brother Reginald (aka Gerald and RJA O'Connor) was born in 1842. The family lived above their shop on Williams Street. There was a third child, thought by my gaunt Nell to be a girl ( born either before or after Mary Ann) who died at the age of one week. Years later a daughter of Mary Ann and John O'Connor wrote "Mamma's father died when she was five years of age and her mother when she was seven both at their house on Williams St. in Limerick, Ireland. Uncle Pat Guthrie and his wife, our Aunt Ellen who was Mamma's Aunt (born O'Mara) continued the business for 4 years when they closed out what was left of it by then, and came with the children to Illinois, near Byron and Oregon." My mother and I have spent many years trying to learn more about this family but we have not succeeded in learning any BMD dates or places of same. The family was Catholic. The Uncle Pat Guthrie referred to as the husband of Ellen O'Mara (Mary O'Mara O'Connor's sister) by all indications I can find is a member of the Guthrie family who lived near Ennistimon, County Clare, and one of several of that family who emigrated to Illinois and Iowa in the 1850-1855 time frame. I would surely be grateful for any assistance. Merry Christmas. Hi Sara, These are the two Charles McCarthy's that I could find online. I will check the book and film for him to see if there are any that are closer in year of birth. Charles Mc Carthy Birth 2 Nov 1825 St. Michael's, Limerick, Limerick, Ireland parents Michael Mc Carthy and Ellen Collins Submitted by a member of the Mormon Church Carles Mc Carthy Christening 27 May 1837 Askeaton, Limerick, Ireland Parents Thady Mc Carthy and Mary Halpin This is extracted Christening records. I have a film on permanent loan for the Church of Ireland Records for County Limerick and will try and check this today. If I don't get to it today then it may have to wait until after the first of the year, as our Family History Center closes the week of Christmas and sometimes New Years. I'm not sure if there is any connection to Julian McCarthy's inquiry , but I am looking for the McCarthy family in County Limerick. The last known ancestor is named Charles McCarthy, born about 1830-1834, in Co. Limerick, apparently (according to his death record). He married Bridget Browne from CastleRobert, Adare, Co. Limerick, but they were in the USA by then. I am trying to find out the names of his parents and earlier. Any clues would be appreciated. Sara J. T. Hi Is there anyone out there who can help me by searching birth registers for Rathkeale. I am trying to find births of McCarthys in Rathkeale back from 1860 specifically any births to John McCarthy and Mary Mulcahy married in Bruff 1855 but who moved to Rathkeale. Are there any John McCarthys out there in records born circa 1824 in Rathkeale? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated (by me AND my 80 year old dad, who until recently knew nothing of his past!). Thanks to all. Julian McCarthy
Hi list I am looking information on Keyes family Ballylanders Limerick. I have Michael Keyes born ab 1842 in Ballylanders. His father was MICHAEL KEYES and mother CATHERINE WELSH. I have been to see the parish priest in Ballylanders, but his records dont go back that far and he has no Keyes in his book. If anyone could help with the KEYES or WELSH families from that area of County Limerick i would be very grateful Thank you Margaret
