    3. Hi Pat you are lucky if the rellies will help out cash wise. Aussie Dollar is much better than the Kiwi Dollar. I have to wait to come into some money (re our other house if it sells) then I will purchase a cert I have found for my HOURIGAN in Doon.Alas when I was there celebrating in 2008 for my 70th with 2 school friends from Fremantle the actual book I looked at dodn't go far enough back. I did copy all the BDM's from what I had re my HOURIGANS so that was a help. Still not enough to go further back. My Daniel arrived in Victoria an ended up dying in Perth. he was living with his daughter who had married into the TERRY family who had originally come from NSW and before that Kent. If there are HOUIGANS in W.A. they are not related to me as Daniel only had 2 children and the son died . I started in 1983 after the death of my mother & daughter but have to say that things are much easier research wise than then. Best of luck with your research. 3. Okay Pat. Just thought it was possible. I have lived now in New Zealand for so long, is the Dockers what used to be Sth Fremantle Football Club? I was an East Fremantle supporter. My uncle Fred BOLT was with Jack SHEEDY & Co. God that sure was years ago. Where has the time gone. My Limerick connection is with the HOURIGAN line and I have had very little luck there. I have virtually given up on that line now. I was fortunate enough to visit the Parish Church in Doon in 2008 and I saw for myself all the Parish records. Alas they didn't go far enough back for me to find more. Just another of my BRICK WALLS. Enjoy the hot weather you are having. I am coming home for 3 weeks in February so guess it will still be very warm then. 2. I have Bourke/Burkes in my tree and more or less unrelated Hourigans I have picked up in my wanderings, and communications with Ruth Warmer. Both families are from Doon, Limerick and the surrounding area, and some of the Hourigans went to Australia. My Bourke's came to America (Minnesota).. I will send you a PDF of the Hourigans I have. 3. Hi Betty, I know that many children were sent to Western Australia. The main places they were sent to were Bindoon & Clontarf. In the 50's we had a number of the children spend a weekend with us. My mother would send them back with clothes, comics, fruit & sweets. She had a local store in Palmyra, Western Australia. Alas I am unable to remember their names or where they came from. Now when I read about those "Lost Children" I just wish that I had been more aware of what was going on. I myself was just a teenager so wasn't too interested at the time. They have had a great deal of publicity over the latter years. Perhaps if you contacted some of Government Agencies they may be able to help for there must be lists of these children. Happy New Year to everyone. 3. Hello, I just wanted to remind researchers that for many years the U.K. "shipped out" or "flew out" - needy children - to other countries or colonies. In Canada, this "child migrant scheme" went on from 1860's to 1940's. I'm told that, for Australia and New Zealand, it mostly went on from 1900 to 1970. But, I recently read that children without parents might have been to that part of the world starting in the mid-1800's. The archives of the "British Home Children" List has 10 years of information and stories to read. And last fall I started up a new List, called CHILD-MIGRANTS-UK. It is for discussing all the children sent to every part of the world. The U.K. also sent them to South Africa, (now-called) Zimbabwe, and Malta, etc. And, many initially went to Canada and made their own way down to the United States. An FYI is that over 100,000 "needy children" went to Canada, and you can assume that over 150,000 needy children were "shipped out" of the U.K. - for probably 150 years ! And, if there was room on the ships, older teens and young adults could get on the ships with them. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA)

    2. Hi Margaret, In my family research I have a relative who was transported to Tasmania for "highway robbery". The incident occurred in the Ballylanders area in 1843 and his co-accused was a young man whos 1st name I can't remember, but his surname was Keyes. If you do a seach on the Transportation records database on the National Archives website you may find him there. I also remember there being a Keyes family in the Ballingarry Tithe Applotments records. It is not backed up by any hard evidence, no sources cited. It was submitted to the site sometime betwen 1978 and 1991, from a resident of Johannesburg, S. Africa. The younger Michael, born in the 1840-42 time period emigrated to New Zealand and married 2 times while there. His first wife was Ellen O'Neil and his 2nd wife was Ellen Eagar. No identified place of death for his parents, Catherine and Michael. The younger Michael died in 1915 in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand. I will have to go through boxes, but I do not believe I found any Keyes (or its variants) in the parish during the time of the Tithes and there are none in there during the time of the Primary Valuation. My hunch is that Michael Sr. somehow ties in with the Keyes families you find in either Galbally or Ballingarry civil parishes that are around that Ballylanders area. Ballylanders parish records start relatively soon after young Michael's birth, and I'd have expected to see more children for the couple if they were indeed in this parish. You might try Galbally, as its parish records are considerably older, as are the parish registers for that side of Ballingarry civil parish (Knocklong Catholic parish). If you would like, I can give you a fairly lengthy list of kids for young Michael with his 2 wives, again, all were born in New Zealand. The oldest child, with the Eagar spouse, is the one who wound back up in S. Africa. It appears the rest of the family may have stayed in New Zealand. Let me know if I can help further. 2. Roberta
    3. Hello, I am new to the list. i am looking for anyone who may be researching Murphy ( I believe from county Limerick). I have a Catherine Murphy whose parents were Daniel and Janet. She was born 1860. I know she went to Scotland at some point and died there. Any info re her parents or her birth would be appreciated. Thanks, Roberta in Canada.
