Pat, I have been following this sight for some time, learning much from all of you listers in my family search. Thanks to all! I have to date not ventured on here, as I didn't think I had anything to contribute. But, upon seeing Knockainy I took notice. I recently learned my gr.gr.gr. grandfather Maurice Kirby was living in Knockainy when he married my gr.gr.gr. grandmother Mary Ryan, whose address was Hospital Parish. They were married in Feb., 1825. This info is from their Marriage Record at the Archdiocese. Their marriage was witnessed by John Ryan and Michael O'Carroll at Hospital Parish. Maurice and Mary's first child, Margaret, was baptized in Hospital Parish in March 1826. I assume he had relocated to Hospital after their marriage. Or, perhaps they returned to Hospital Parish for their first child's baptism. Now back to your question of people moving from where they were born and raised; Maurice and Mary both moved from their Parishes as their next child, John Kirby was baptized in the Emly parish in 1830, as were their next six children. Maurice may have owned a dry goods store in Emly, at least family correspondence indicates some of the Kirby family operated a store in Emly. Maurice Kirby's name shows up as a resident in the village of Emly in Griffth's. So, yes they moved and geminately relocated. I have the names and birthrates of all 8 Kirby children that lived in Emly, if anyone is interested I would share this info. Or if anyone has information on the Kirby family that owned a dry goods store in Emly I would love to learn about that. I believe 6 of Maurice and Mary Kirby's children immigrated from Emly to Cleveland, Ohio, USA, between 1850 and 1862. My gr.gr grandmother was Catherine Kirby, born Oct.,1838. Married Laurence Mulligan in Cleveland, Ohio abt. 1863. A large reward was offered for his arrest and he was taken into custody the next day. Mary Walsh was taken to the dispensary in Bruree. The incident took place in Tankardstown (near Kilmallock) in June of 1838. I have yet to find out whether Timothy was found guilty as charged or what kind of sentence he may have received. Looking for information on five Carroll siblings from Ballyneety and Stonepark, about 10 miles southeast of Limerick Town. Parents were Thomas Carroll and Mary Carroll. Patrick Carroll (1826-1894). Emigrated to Chicago as a very young man. Married Elizabeth Cagney. Children born in Chicago: Thomas, May, Edward, Owen/Eugene, Anne, Kate, Elizabeth. David Carroll, born in 1832. Edmond/Edward Carroll (1835-1906). Parents were Thomas Carroll and Mary Carroll. Married in Herbertstown in 1861 to Catherine Higgins (1833-1908) from Rathkeale. Emigrated to Chicago in 1880 with children Thomas, John, Patrick, David, James, Mary, Anna. Lived on the Near West Side of Chicago next door to Patrick Carroll above. See: http://www.peterspioneers.com/ECHC.htm James Carroll, born in 1837. Mary Carroll, born in 1840. Jo Mitchell's Lysaght website refers to two Carrolls in Stonepark: John Carroll married to Honor Lysaght and William Lysaght married to Mary Carroll. I am wondering if there is some connection between these Carrolls and the five above. Peter Biggins
For sometime now I have been searching for my gggggrandfather Darby(Jeremiah)Kealy's Family who the Irish birth records indicate was baptized in Nenagh,County Tipperary in 1794 with his father Daniel Kealy from Ballyhenry,County Tipperary and his mother Honora Scanell from Cork.I recently found the enclosed information from County Limerick,Oola Civil Parish 1826 -Coonagh Barony of several Kealy's-Keeley's-Keiley's residing in Ballyahiff,Kylenagoneeny,Oola Hills area in County Limerick .Can you help me with any information you can find on these family members. It is now thought that Darby Keally immigrated to Canada in 1829.-Thank you and kind regards.-Basil Kealey http://www.connorsgenealogy.com/LIM/OolaTithes.htm
Last week, I transcribed the tithe applotments for this civil parish which is located not far from the County Tipperary border. One of the names I found was Bryan O'Connor living in Baggotstown, the same name as my gr gr gr grandfather. The tithes were dated 1833. His son, Timothy, my gr gr grandfather, was born ca 1810 so this could be my ancestor, however, Timothy's death cert has him and his parents born in County Tipperary. Also, Timothy was married in Tipperary RC parish but that is also where his wife was born and raised and usually one did get married in the wife's church. To add to this, I have also found a Timothy Connors in 1851 cited for leaving an unharnessed cart while in Tipperary Town. The clerk (Petty Sessions Court) wrote his address as 'Garryspillane, Galbally Parish. While close to Galbally Civil Parish, Garryspillane was actually located in Ballyscaddan Civil Parish which is also not far from County Tipperary or Knockainy Civil Parish. Until I can see the RC records for the area, I don't know whether this is my Bryan O'Connor or not but I have been doing these tithes for years now and have never found a Bryan O'Connor/Connors before so this one really gets me wondering if this is mine. Looking at the Discovery Map for the area, it looks like Baggotstown is about 6 or so miles from Emly in County Tipperary. Timothy emigrated to Troy NY where his brother William lived. On Williams' gravestone, it says he was born in Emly RC Parish, County Tipperary. In 2008, while I was in Dublin, I looked at the Emly RC Parish fairly quickly due to time constraints. For the time period of my search for William and/or Timothy's births, there were gaps in the records, so not finding their baptisms was not conclusive. So this brings me to my questions. Is it possible, that they moved around and didn't stay put in the area where they were born and raised? Did they follow the work? Any opinions? I don't know if it is wishful thinking on my part but I have a strong feeling that this might just be the guy I have been looking for and was wondering what others, familiar with the area thought. Thanks in advance for your opinions. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

Marie, Would you look up William Creagh? William Creagh b abt 1823 in Drewscourt, Ballyagran, Limerick. Ballyagran is about 8 mi south of Bruree. Hi, I wonder if you could take us through how you found out the story behind your relative. It's great to be able to have this info for your decendents. He was charged with assault after he hit his tenant Mary Walsh with a shovel during an argument over the ownership of some manure. A look through the records of the Limerick Gaol would suggest that assault was not nearly so severely punished as petty thievery. so Timothy probably got off lightly. According to the Cancelled Land Books Clohessys and Walshes continued to live on adjacent plots of land until about 1865 when my Clohessy family immigrated and settled in Chicago. Anyone one else researching Clohessys or Toomeys from the area around Kilmallock, Fedamore and Bruree? I'd really like to share info with you. Well since you asked...I let the lookups go on for days. I normally do ask that lookups be conducted privately, but considering the general quiet on most lists I let it go on. It got to be too much email. I was contacted privately. I respect that. List memebers should contact a list owner off list. If anyone has further comments, contact me OFF list. Hi Marie I would appreciate a look-up for CLANCY, McMAHON in Loghill area and O'GRADY in Shanagolden area. Thanking you in anticipation Barbara Lughermo, Melbourne Australia
As of now No emails concerning the recent lookup will be going through to the list. You will have to resend them privately. I normally have not allowed on list look-ups for the very reason that they clog the list. I let this one go on too long because the lists are so quiet. >From now on, if you wish to offer a look-up please give your email and have people contact you Off List. This is in no way intended to be critical of Marie. She was very sweet to offer. On a small list this may work, but on fairly large lists, it can become a problem. Thanks, Christina
