    1. [IRL-LIMERICK] Gallagher in Co. Limerick
    2. Jan
    3. Pat, I thought I would respond on the list in case anyone does have Gallaghers in this county. I have two Gallagher families and am trying to learn whether or not they might have been connected in the 1600's and early 1700's. One branch from my Glanworth, Cork, family moved to Anglesborough in Galbally parish. I have another family that appears in Kildorrery, Cork, parish in the mid 1700's. My direct line left there and moved just next door, which happened to be Co. Limerick. In the late 1700's or very early 1800's Thomas Gallagher settled in the townland of Kilcruaig, civil parish of Kilflyn, RC parish of Glenroe and Ballyorgan. His son Thomas settled in Houndscourt (same parish). Names in this line includ Thomas, Maurice, John, Terence, Michael, and Bartholomew. I have done extensive research on this line. Jan

    1. [IRL-LIMERICK] More on my O'Connor in Rockainy Civil Parish, Co Limerick
    2. Pat Connors
    3. I am still ruminating over my recent find of Bryan O'Connor in the tithe applotments for Baggotstown, Rockainy Civil Parish, County Limerick. If this is my Bryan, his son, Timothy was born ca 1810 and on his death cert it gave his parents names, mother was Anne Gallagher. So, today I am looking for where the Gallaghers may have been found in the Griffith's Valuation and the tithes. Since the GV is indexed, Iooked there first and found a John Gallagher living in Bottomstown, not that far from Baggotstown. Checking the tithes for Rockainy CP, I find two Galligans, one Richard living in Loughgur and a widow in Rockainy. I need to look at the film again and see if maybe I transcribed the 'N' instead of an 'R'. The handwriting was hard to read so it could be a mistake. This is an interesting development and I could not believe how many Gallaghers were found in the county, especially in the Galbally Civil Parish. Anyone out there have Gallaghers from this area? Since I am fairly sure that my O'Connors were from Emly RC Parish in County Tipperary, I was wondering, out loud in another post, why he was found in Rockainy CP in the tithes. Could be that was where Anne was from, so he lived there and that would be where I would find their RC records. Seems like my puzzle pieces are coming together. I am open to other opinions and/or possibilities that I haven't thought of yet. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

    3. Sylvia, My wife's great grandmother, Catherine Higgins, was born in the town of Rathkeale in 1833. Her parents were John and Catherine Condon Higgins. She was baptized on June 17 in Rathkeale Parish (Diocese of Limerick) at St. Mary's Church. Godparents were John Keshan and Anna Condon. The town of Catherine's birth appears on the death certificate of her daughter Mary Carroll Moran, who died on April 6, 1938. On February 12, 1861, Catherine, 27, married Edmond Carroll, 25, in Herbertstown. Witnesses were David Carroll and Marianne Corbett. Herbertstown is 28 miles from Rathkeale. Edward and Catherine had seven children in Limerick. Based on son Patrick's birth record, they lived in the townland of Stonepark in County Limerick. This is in Ballybricken & Bohermore Parish (St. Ailbe's Church), in the Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly. In 1880, the family emigrated to the Near West Side of Chicago. His marriage cert. 1854 England showed a William Higgins as father (deceased) Sometime between 1832 & 1854 (possibly potato famine) William moved to England where he married in 1854.
