    2. Maggie, Thanks for the reply. I just recently found the Doyle link through a will. My grandfather's Aunt Jane Walsh Behan left money to a niece and nephew John and Mary Doyle children of her sister Mary Walsh Doyle. The niece Mary was supposed to have been living in London at the time, 1926. Marge On 2/24/11, Margaret Doyle <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi, I haven't got that far back on the Doyle side yet . 2. Sharon Slater
    3. I can't see this being opened any time soon, it is a big jump from getting the 1911 census opened early. There are plenty of people alive who themselves or their parents are on that census and although to us it looks like very minimal information, to them it is their lives. We should be patient with this and at least wait 90 years (as I'm not that naive to think they will be lock for the official 100 years). Which really is only 5 years away and in research time, that's not that long. 3. Marie, if you are also interested in viewing the area in greater detail possible than on the paper Discovery map, the Ordnance Survey of Ireland (OSI) website is very useful. Here is a link centered on Castletown: http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,544682,630631,4,10 Toggle the different map series at the right to see different types of maps. The historic 6", ortho (aerial views - 2000 and 2005 are best) and street map are all useful for genealogy purposes. Pan and zoom with the controls at the upper right. Also look at the "Legend", which tells you what kinds of boundaries are represented by what lines on the map (for the historic 6"). As you zoom in, the maps change, and there are more townland names included. You can see the townland boundaries on the historic 6" maps (unlike on the Discovery Series) - very useful for genelaogy. I use these all the time. Geralyn Wood Barry in Oregon On 2/22/2011 11:48 AM, Marie Goforth-Allen wrote: > I want a Discovery Map that covers the area in and around Castletown (Corcomohide). 3. Castletown is at the intersection of maps 65 and 73. It is on the very bottom edge of 65, so you also need 73, which is below 65. Castletown is also at the extreme left edge of 65, so it is good to have 64 and 72 also. I have these 4 maps mounted on a wall in my office so I can see the entire area around Castletown / Rossmore. Maurice's parents were David Kirby and Honora Slattery. Thanks to all! I have to date not ventured on here, as I didn't think I had anything to contribute. But, upon seeing Knockainy I took notice. I recently learned my gr.gr.gr. grandfather Maurice Kirby was living in Knockainy when he married my gr.gr.gr. grandmother Mary Ryan, whose address was Hospital Parish. They were married in Feb., 1825. This info is from their Marriage Record at the Archdiocese. Their marriage was witnessed by John Ryan and Michael O'Carroll at Hospital Parish. Maurice and Mary's first child, Margaret, was baptized in Hospital Parish in March 1826. I assume he had relocated to Hospital after their marriage. Or, perhaps they returned to Hospital Parish for their first child's baptism. Now back to your question of people moving from where they were born and raised; Maurice and Mary both moved from their Parishes as their next child, John Kirby was baptized in the Emly parish in 1830, as were their next six children. Maurice may have owned a dry goods store in Emly, at least family correspondence indicates some of the Kirby family operated a store in Emly. Maurice Kirby's name shows up as a resident in the village of Emly in Griffth's. So, yes they moved and geminately relocated. I have the names and birthrates of all 8 Kirby children that lived in Emly, if anyone is interested I would share this info. Or if anyone has information on the Kirby family that owned a dry goods store in Emly I would love to learn about that. I believe 6 of Maurice and Mary Kirby's children immigrated from Emly to Cleveland, Ohio, USA, between 1850 and 1862. My gr.gr grandmother was Catherine Kirby, born Oct.,1838. Married Laurence Mulligan in Cleveland, Ohio abt. 1863. I have seen a baptism held for one child in a more distant church than the rest, which implies a family reason. Anything is possible. Sounds like you are honing in on your guy.
