Hi all, I'm just coming back to the Limerick list after many years absent. My mother told me that Bridget O'Sullivan who went down on the Titanic was her cousin (not first cousin) and now that I'm retired, I'm working more diligently on my family tree. My mother had (O)Sullivan's on both sides and I'm trying to make the connection. Does anyone have the names of her parents and other info that could help me? Thanks, Peggy Perusse
Found this doing a google search , O Sullivans are in my Emmet lines of Limerick an Chicago Dear Shadow, There was some confusion at the time of the sinking as to this woman's name. Montreal papers reported that a "Bridget Mary Sullivan" of Montreal had died in the sinking and that she had previously been living there. In reality Bridget O'Sullivan (I've seen no evidence of a middle name for her) was making her first trip across the Atlantic to be with sisters already living in New York. She was accompanied by her boyfriend, Joe Foley. They apparently were well on their way to making it up to the boatdeck when Bridget decided to go back to her cabin for her purse and Joe followed--a fatal mistake for both. When Carpathia arrived, her sister Hannah hoped against hope that Bridget might have survived after all and waited as the survivors disembarked. A man pressed a card with a poem on it into her hand--she kept the card and its message near to her as long as she lived: Serene I fold my hands and wait Nor care for wind, nor tide, nor sea I rave no more 'gainst time nor fate For lo! My own shall come to me. I stay my haste, I make delays For what avails this eager place? I stand amid the Eternal ways And what is mine shall know my face. Asleep, awake, by night or day The friends I seek are seeking me, No wind can drive my barque astray Nor change the tide of destiny. What matter if I stand alone? I wait with joy the coming years: My heart shall reap where it has sown And garner up its fruit of tears. The waters know their own and draw The brook that springs in yonder heights So flows the good with equal law Unto the soul of pure delights. The stars come nightly to the sky The tidal wave unto the sea Nor time, nor space, nor deep, nor high Can keep my own away from me. Bridget was born May 18, 1890 in County Limerick, Ireland. She was a pretty, petite girl and a good photo of her appears in Senan Molony's book The Irish Aboard Titanic. Apparently the second printing of the book is now out of print however. I hope some of the above is of interest. Basil, and you have looked for variations on the name like Keily, etc.? If not I guess I would look at the parishes surrounding Bourney parish and Oola parish. BOURNEY OR COURNGAREEN OR COURAGANEEN RC PARISH: In Diocese of Killaloe. This parish was divided up in 1846. Four townlands went to Kyle & Knock RC parish, and Boula went to Roscrea RC parish. In 1704, this RC parish had a detached part. One part was bounded by: Corbally on the N; one of more parishes in the diocese of Cashel & Emly on the E and S; Borrisnafarney on the SW; Rathnaveoge on the W. The other portion was bounded by one or more parishes in the diocese of Cashel & Emly on the E and S; Corbally on the W; Kyle on the N.In 1704, this RC parish had a detached part. Hi Liz, Been very difficult. Orig found Ontario Biography on line that said from Glin, went to Lanark Ont in 1832 , then to Woodslee Ont in 1838. Mullins Family Also grave markers have born Glin, Glen Limerick. Have seen Mulvihill site and I think is where it has the Kennedy married to a Mulvillhill. Didn't see any Mullins' in the site. I believe Mullins came from Shanagolden area, and further north. It seems little or no info before 1800, like a black hole. Even passenger lists for 1832 were not kept. Have alot of bits and pieces. Have been in contact with Mullins from Glin and trying to trace them back. Chuck

Hi Jan, My Margaret Garry was in Kildare mid 1800s. She married Thomas Stackpole. They are the parents of my great grandmother, Julia Stackpole married to John Walsh, 27 Aug 1870, in the RC parish of Celbridge in Kildare. Sons appear to be Francis, Thomas and John. There could be a connection as I have not been able to find them in Griffiths Valuation in Kildare, and there are lots of "Stacks" in Kerry and probably in Limerick as well. Julia was born about 1848. On the 1901 census she states that she was born in Kildare but I just checked the 1911 census and she states that she was born in Dublin. If that is the case, I might be looking for Garvey instead of Garry. I had eliminated Garvey when I was under the assumption that she was born in Kildare and there were NO Garveys in Kildare in GV! But, for now, let us hold on to the belief that there may be a connection. On 2/23/11, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi Marge. > I have Garry lineage from Limerick.
