I have a John McGOWAN born about 1796 in Leitrim. He married a lady named Sarah (maybe LAVENDER) from Hilgay Norfolk England. So far, only one child has been found - Margaret born about 1841 in Ireland. In between 1841 and 1861 John was in India serving in the Army. In 1861 John appears on the London Census and is living at 7 Bruton Street. He is then a fishing Tackle Maker. Sarah is still alive. In 1866 Margaret married John BYRNE and they had 2 children. Word has it that they went to South Africa with John BYRNE in a diplomatic job. In the 1871 Census John & Sarah are still there. Also are Margaret & John's two children. In the 1881 Census John is still living at Bruton Street but he is a widower. Would love to hear from anyone who has this family.
