My maternal greatgrandparents, Ellen Cassidy and Mick Flynn went to Scotland somewhere in the late 1890s-early 1900s. I have tried to search for them on the Scots-origins site in the census , but I didn't come up with a definitve match; it was complicated by the fact that they may have been living separately since they were there to find whatever work was available. When they returned they opened a shop in Dowra. Interestingly there were a number of other Cassidy shopowners in the same area; I wonder if they were related ? They took three of their daughters to Scotland with them, and now that I think about it; I'm not sure that they all returned to Ireland or when. Eventually all 3 ended up in Scotland permanently: Maggie Findlater and Agnes McGloughlin in Edinborough, and Mary Kate McPadden in Glasgow. Ellen's brother Pat Cassidy went to Scotland with his family to live as did her sister Mary McDermott. My mother's father, Michael Keegan, died in Edinborough in the influenza epidemic in 1918. Years later, when my grandmother gave birth to her last child, Eugene McGowan, she did so in Scotland.
