My g-g-grandfather (Patrick Charles [McSharry] Foley) came here from Co. Leitrim, Ireland. According to family lore, he changed our name to Foley once in America. This was done as apparently back home in Ireland, McSharry's were supposed to have been known as being horse thieves. I have been able to verify that the Foley's and McSherry's were the predominant horse breeders for the area. Patrick married my g-g-grandmother Winifred Kinney once in America, so they say(we have no dates), and their first child, Mary Ann, was born in 1884 never having married or had children. My g-grandfather, James Valentine Foley was born in 1887, both he and Mary Ann were born in Jamestown. Patrick was born in approx. 1858/died approx. 1918, Winifred was born in approx. 1860/died approx. 1925, we have no other information on them. They did not participate in the US 1880 census so I'm not sure if they were still in Ireland then. According to what I can! find, New York won't give me a death cert. on either as I am not their child. Also, I have no idea of the month/day of their deaths or births. I have searched Ellis Island records and can find no evidence of either immigrating through there. I have checked the LDS (familysearch.org) site and found nothing despite numerous spellings and date modifications. I am trying to find this info so that I can eventually locate any remaining family in Ireland so that we may re-establish a relationship. Can anyone help me?
