I just ran across a reference in a personal letter that my Cooke family line is of 17th Century Scottish "planter" stock, and that the Cook name was Protestant and then later changed to Cooke. Is there a history online where I could understand the migration of the Scots down into Ireland in the 17th Century? Leitrim is not usually listed as a destination of these Scots. If they were Protestants, would there have been 17th and maybe early 18th century church records I could look into? Thanks for any guidance, Susan Daily
Susan, Read about the Cromwellian Settlements in Ireland. Your family may be part of that settlement.
