Are you saying that Baptismal records are the only way to begin a search and that other leads should be discarded ? About the only thing that I DON'T HAVE for my ancestors are their baptismal records, and I have my Leitrim ancestors back to the late 1700s. I just learned that I share a common ancestor for my ggf Flynn with another researcher. Two month's ago I "met" a cousin in England who is the grandaughter of my ggm's sister. The connection was made based on the townland. It doesn't matter that Griffith's Valuation doesn't list any other family members; Charles is the only one Colin knows anyway. When one is looking for Michael Flynn in Leitrim and finds 500 individuals it is fair to say that the information is not significant. However when one is looking for a Charles McLoughlin in Mohill and finds ONE Charles Mcloughlin in Mohill then it is worth pursuing. If I were Colin and he has the money, the easiest thing would be for him to order the research through the Leitrim Genealogy Center. Brendan, perhaps in your family you had more luck with other types of records, but I assure you that the Land Records are very rich with information. Sharon
