> > Wonder if anyone on the list has information about the history of the Methodist church in Manorhamilton. > Do records exist? Did they have their own cemetery? I have two sources: Irish Methodists - Where Do I Start? by Steven C. ffeary-Smyrl (a pamphlet) Irish Church Records, by James Ryan, (a book with a chapter devoted to Methodist Church) Some records for the church are on microfilm at PRONI in Belfast (MIC.429/1) For the Manorhamilton Circuit, records for 1836-44, pages 214-215 However, both sources say that after the split from the Established Church (Church of Ireland) in 1817/1818, most continued to have rites of baptism and marriage performed in the Established Church until the 1820s, after that records are in various places depending which type of Methodist the person was. Did you know that during the 1800s there were five different groups of Methodists who all kept their own records? Eventually all the records were transferred from the different entities to the Irish Methodist Church (1910). Also, check out this website, where many of the records are gathered: http://rylibweb.man.ac.uk/data1/dg/text/method.html -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
