Hello everyone: I am posting this inquiry in the hope that someone on the list may be able to assist me in the search for my FERGUSON and CONNOLLY ancestors from Kinlough. I have in my possession the details of the marriage record for my great grandparents John Ferguson and Mary Connolly. They were married 27 November 1869 in Kinlough Roman Catholic parish, Kinlough District. John Ferguson was from Derinloughin townland and his father was Patrick Ferguson. John's mother may possibly be Bridget MacLoughlin. Mary Connolly was also from Derinloughin townland and her father was Bernard Connolly. I have no information about the Connolly family. I have been told by a family member that the Ferguson family had lived in County Leitrim for many generations. I was also told that my great grandfather John Ferguson was a Justice of the Peace. John and Mary had 9 children (I have found them in the 1901 census in Townland Derrinloughan, Parish Rossinver) Patrick born 1870; Anne born 1872; Catherine born 1874; Bernard born 1876; Charles born 1879; Hannah Marie born 1881; Bridget born circa 1883; Peter born 1885; John born circa 1889 and James born circa 1901. According to the Leitrim Genealogy Centre, there were nine children baptized to this couple in the Kinlough baptismal records. Their son Peter was my grandfather who moved to Scotland when he was a young man, married there and then immigrated to Canada. His sisters, Anne, Hannah Marie and Bridget also immigrated to Canada. Apparently his brother Patrick took over the family farm in Leitrim. I do not know what happened to the other members of the family but I would like to find out. I am hoping that someone may have a connection to or further information about these Ferguson and Connolly families. Any assistance or possible leads would be greatly appreciated. Sharon Ferguson
Sharon, Are you interested in finding earlier generations of your great grandparents? Do you have access to a (LDS) Family History Center? You might be able to order films for the parish records, and go through them to find baptisms for your great grandparents. I am not sure if you have done this or not. Then you could search for your great great grandfathers in the Griffiths Valuations. If found, you can order maps showing where their farms were (if any). You can also go forward with the parish records (if they exist) and find out who the siblings may have married in that Parish, and then their children who were baptized (if any). Not sure how much you want to pursue.
