Her father John was originally from Leitrim (born 1835) and married a Catherine Golger in Bradford England in 1858. They emigrated to Australia in 1874 and he died in 1876. I guess there is a connection with this person to the information you gave. Chris

He gave me the name of a firm he had good workings with, so I contacted them. It is going to cost me an arm and a leg (90 euros), but since I will more than likely get the name of Charles and Nicholas' father, and possibly his father or grandfather's name, I feel it is more than worth it. I am trying to produce a Cooke Family Report for their descendants by this September, so this would be wonderful information to include. I've asked them to include the names Cooke, Kilkenny, and McCabe, all of Sunnaghmore, in the research. I wish I could go and research the info myself, but I just don't see any trips to Ireland or Ulster occurring any time in the next two years. Do you know if the Rev Beresford has estate records left anywhere? Thanks Jim - you are a fount of knowledge, as always! Susan p.s. Email me if you wish to discuss my research plans with this researcher. Or you can read my email directly to you.

When you say " am thinking of having some research done at PRONI and am wondering if I should search the early Baxter land rentals" how were you thinking of doing this? It was my understanding that you had to do your own research unless you paid loads of money to a local researcher? Reason I ask is that several of my families were tenants of the Maddens. Actually my son is currently studying at Cambridge at Trinity Hall college - the same college as John Madden who had some of our ancestors evicted and their property burned to stop them returning!! Cheers Jim

Surnames: MCCABE COOKE Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YWC.2ACI/5346 Message Board Post: I have two women who were the matriarchs in my Cooke line, but for whom I don't have much information: Mary McCabe, md. Charles Cooke, died 13 Apr 1861, age 65 Catherine McCabe md. Nicholas Cooke, died 25 May 1856, age 65. I am wondering if anyone has done or is doing any research on the McCabe family of Sunnagh More (Sunnaghmore) or Gubbs, a subdivion within Sunnaghmore. There were five McCabe families listed in the 1901 census. But only one McCabe (John) in the 1856 Griffiths Valuation (his farm was three over from the Cookes' farms.) I have a James McCabe married to Mary McCabe having children in Gubbs in 1910, where Cookes are sponsors. Their daughter Rose married Patrick Cooke in 1944. I would be happy to exchange information. Thank you! Susan Daily

My problem here is that I don't know Mayo at all. The indices list events by Registrar's district which is not the same as parish. Do you know what this might be? It is usually, I think, the same as the Poor Law Union. Otherwise I would have a problem. Her death would be down as Jane (or possibly even Jean or Janet) Gallagher. This is not an uncommon name so there could be loads of them. Also you only give the year of death. Does this mean you are unsure of it? If it's only a guess (even a close guess) this would make the search harder. (I assume she was about 79 at death?) JIm

    2. Pat Connors
    3. Here is a website where you can download all the census forms for the USA and states where they had state censuses, plus all the forms for Canada, Ireland, UK, Scotland and also for Tribal registration (DAWES). Included are great tracker tools, where you can keep a record for each person you are researching on one page that will give you what censuses you found them in, where they lived, etc. This is totally free and I've used the service since Gary Minder started it years ago. You can find it at: http://www.censustools.com/ -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com http://www.connorsgenealogy.net

("A photocopy of an identified entry can be purchased for €6.00 (which includes a search fee of €2.00).") If that's the case then I really am pissed off with them. Up until about 6 months ago the total fee for a photocopy of an entry (if you had the reference) was 1.90 euros. Last month I e-mailed them to check the new price and was told it was 4 euros (a better than 100% price rise) and now it's 6 euros (a 3 times price increase) *&%&*^%$^&( is all I can say to that. As to the indices it all depends on whether your local FHC has them in stock. Mine didn't until about 18 months ago when they got them in. The indices (births marriages and deaths) consist of hundreds of films (well about 8 drawers full). Each film holds 1 or 2 years worth of data and you are talking from 1864 to well into the 20th century. All I can suggest is you ask your FHC if they could possibly get the indices in. If not, well I'm always here, as long as you don;t have hundreds to do! Cheers Jim

    3. Here's a heads up from Rootsweb Help Desk: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ Faked mail: 2006-05-02 Fake mail addressed from RootsWeb Abuse Department It has come to our attention that RootsWeb is suffering from a low-life attempt to infect its users by sending them to an infected website. Basically, if you see mail that is reputedly being stated as being from the RootsWeb Abuse Department and telling you to confirm your email by clicking a link, then just delete it. Please DO NOT click the link. Another reminder: don't ever click on any bank, PayPal, today I got one from Amazon etc, links that talks about your information needs correction. When you click on it, it takes you to an internet place that looks just like the authentic website, but it isn't, and then will ask for personal info, like your social security number, date of birth, credit card info etc. This is a way for them to take money out of your bank account, charge your credit card or take over your identity.
