Eventually Cloonlogher Parish Tithes will be online, too. These records will be of more value to you and other people, if we can look for our relatives' surnames in an alphabetical list, especially if we don't know what townland they came from. To see what the Tithes list of names looks like, please see this page for example: http://www.rootsweb.com/~irllet/records/001.JPG Volunteers will be given five pages of which names only (and townland they are in) will be transcribed. If we get 15 volunteers, that will take care of a a big chunk of the work! If you are interested, please send an email to me, and I will assign the pages to you. For those with slow dial-up, please let me know, and you will be assigned the images that are already on the web site. 2. Pat Connors
    3. As many of you may or may not be aware of, Rootsweb's lists are going through changes. They are being changed to the Mailman program to administer the various list's needs, such as subscribing, unsubscribing, etc. For the past month or so, I have participated in a trial program to work out the bugs of switching from one program to another and I can attest that this will be fairly painless. However, some may find some changes and have questions. So, for the first week or so, the list is open to address those issues as they arise and I will be here to answer any questions you my have, either on the list of off the list. Rootsweb has devised a schedule for switching the many lists that they have over to Mailman. This list will change over on Thursday, August 17th. If you are interested in when your other lists will convert, you can check the schedule here: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/migrate_sched.html -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

    3. > > Wonder if anyone on the list has information about the history of the Methodist church in Manorhamilton. > Do records exist? Did they have their own cemetery? I have two sources: Irish Methodists - Where Do I Start? by Steven C. ffeary-Smyrl (a pamphlet) Irish Church Records, by James Ryan, (a book with a chapter devoted to Methodist Church) Some records for the church are on microfilm at PRONI in Belfast (MIC.429/1) For the Manorhamilton Circuit, records for 1836-44, pages 214-215 However, both sources say that after the split from the Established Church (Church of Ireland) in 1817/1818, most continued to have rites of baptism and marriage performed in the Established Church until the 1820s, after that records are in various places depending which type of Methodist the person was. Did you know that during the 1800s there were five different groups of Methodists who all kept their own records? Eventually all the records were transferred from the different entities to the Irish Methodist Church (1910). Also, check out this website, where many of the records are gathered: http://rylibweb.man.ac.uk/data1/dg/text/method.html -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

His wife wasn't mentioned at all. Apparently then he has no connection to this county other than through his wife. Without his birth location in Ireland, i.e. the town/townland, civil parish and county as well as his parents names it would be impossible for anyone in Ireland to attempt any link. His and his children's civil and church records wherever they emigrated would be sources to find his specific birth location in Ireland. There are 32 counties and 64,000 towns/townlands. Regarding his wife, Alice Gilroy, you'd need her birth location in County Leitrim and parents names to find her baptismal record in the church register for that location. The Leitrim Heritage Centre will provide county-wide research for you to find that record on a fee-basis.
