Look in his civl and church marriage and death records in England as well as his children's civil and church records to find his parents names and where he was born in Ireland.

    3. Hi Susan, thank you for the information. Hopefully I can get an answer about the wife's first name from someone at the site. Guess I am stuck -- again! I just don't know enough about these people to link them to anyone else. And I don't know the county. I am assuming you mean the 1901 census? which wouldn't do me any good anyway, because I know my people were in the USA at least by 1852 because that is where there first child is born. Nancy

    3. I'm not sure how it indexes and offers matches, but I have a hunch the census result would just be based on the husband's last name, and both spouses first names, or maybe just the husband's gievn name. The Leitrim census is online for free at this site, if that is where your McNamara came from: http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/index.shtml Scroll through to find the link. Hope this helps, Susan Daily On 9/8/06, Nancy & Ted <hootmon2@earthlink.net> wrote: > Wow, this looks to be a great site. 3. Wow, this looks to be a great site. Here's what I am confused on -- I did a search on my surnames (James) McNAMARA and spouse (Sarah) MULVEY. If I find a census record, e.g., for James McNamara, is the result based Just on the McNamara name? or is the Sarah or Mulvey somehow reflected in that. Because if it is not, I just don't know how to make these searches work for me since I don't know county, siblings or parents on James. I do know the parent of Sarah Mulvey, Thomas Mulvey--will that do anything for me? For example, would a census record show a Sarah living in Thomas' house if she is still at home, or does it just show the head of household. Nancy
