Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YWC.2ACI/5418.1.1 Message Board Post: My grandfathers name was John Cannon. My great grandfathers name was Michael Cannon and my great grandmothers name was Bridget (Nee Stretton) Cannon. I found a possible match in the death index. I have sent an email to Leitrim Genealogy Centre to see how much it would cost to check cemetery records. I believe she is buried in Aughnasheelin Cemetery. My grandfather went to the US around 1913. Beatrice was born about 1900 so I would think she would have come over around 1920. I don't think she stayed long. She was unmarried when she came over here and unmarried when she went back. I have checked the SSDI for her brothers but either they died before 1965 or they worked for the RR and won't be in the SSDI. I haven't been able to identify them in the 1930 US census. Any ideas I can look into? Thanks, Lynn

The web site you should be looking at is the Leitrim-Roscommon Geneology site this is the one we have been using to try and find my wifes grand mother & father who were born in Longford and Cavan respectively but married & died in Carrick on Shannon which is the principal town of Leitrim but they lived on the Roscommon side (over the River) ask your search engine to look for any of the Irish Counties Geneology sites, ie Cavan geneology . I am totally sold on the Family History Maggie my wifes Name was Pogue. Thousands moved to the US from Ireland & TheNorth East of England Newcastle on Tyne. We have now found all the missing links of the Pogue Family the last eing in the last few weeks. But i would like to find how the Grandparents met etc. Why dont we keep in touch send me an email. I will be in Dublin soon on the trail. Kind regards Ray Walker marray@btinternet.com

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YWC.2ACI/5332.1.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Ray, thank you for the information. While the "Briggs" location was for my new DNA Cousin, I have been working the USA side of the pond for my Reynolds relatives. Michael Reynolds And Catherine McGinnis married in RC parish of Mohil in Leitrim in 1851. They disappear until Cartherine and the children arrive in Port New York in May 1865 and the family eventually lived in CT and RI, Leitrim Genealogy center doesnt have any of the children's records so I am hoping US records will give me a clue instead of having to fish in 32 counties for their birth's. If you ever go to DNA, look at the website of familytreedna. they are the largest data base for this type of DNA research, over 100,000 samples to date. I'm not connected with them, just used them I'll keep in touch, Jack

Surnames: COOKE, MAGURN, NASH Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YWC.2ACI/5416 Message Board Post: I ordered from the Valuations Office in Dublin the Griffiths Valuation Cancelation pages showing who inherited what land for the Cookes in the Parish of Cloone, County Leitrim. If you've seen Griffiths page 29, showing Isaac and Robert Cooke leasing the land in Gorteen, the land passed as follows: In 1861, Isaac's name was crossed out and replaced by Robert. In 1894, the Magurn land went to Robert. In 1895, Robert's name was crossed out and replaced by Jeremiah. In 1931, Jeremiah's name was crossed out and replaced by John Nash. In an unknown year, Patrick Joseph Cooke obtained a lease of land near the original parcel. (Perhaps 1976.) Just curious, does anyone know the parentage for Jeremiah?

I was asking about the Townland for a cousin I acquired through DNA testing. He is from Toronto and I live in the US. He eventually found the townland in Co Sligo, Spelled Breeoge. The Briggs was developed by relatives who mispronounced and mispelled the ancestors birth place. The last sentence in you message intrigued me very much. Could you give me more information on what records are going on line? Are you talking about the records in the Dublin records office? Is there a site on the internet that gives information about this? The potential benefits to family historians like me are so great that I am getting excited about it all rready. Thanks again for you interest and your help, and God Bless to you also. Jack

    1. [LEITRIM] Need help finding major landowners (estates) for Lough Gill area before 1845
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YWC.2ACI/5415 Message Board Post: I am trying to locate records pertaining to my Hannan family, believed to have emigrated from the area surrounding Lough Gill, on the border with county Sligo, in 1845. I don't really have a hope of finding them in Church records, as their births seem to predate existing records, but I am hoping that they may be listed in estate records as tenant farmers. To do that I need to know the names of the owner(s) of the estate(s) in that vicinity prior to the famine era. I will then need to know where those estate records (if they exist) are located. If anyone can assist, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Just to give you an idea what it is all about 1/2mile road from Carrick starts with townlands Cortober about 100 people , Killukin 10 people , Mullaghmore with 40 people thats now 2006. In 1900 3/4 times that many people lived then imigrated to USA UK etc. I wish you good luck as we are on the same mission but we have lots more information. In 2008 all records will be on the Web from the Irish records office so you may have better luck GOD BLESS RAY WALKER. ,
