    1. Leitrim -- McAweeney, Leddy, McPartlan(d), Macguire, Reynolds brothers
    2. Staite
    3. Seeking location in Leitrim for six Leitrim men -- all tried 6 March 1846 -- transported to Tasmania for "appearing armed and unlawful assembly". Might have been "MOLLY MAGUIRES". McAweeney and Leddy charged with "compelling to quit, McPartlan(d) and Macguire with "stealing a gun from Wm Thompson" and the Reynolds brothers with "appearing armed unlawfully". All described as labourers or farm labourers. These offences might have been committed in same or different locations. I need to know where the offences occurred and, ideally, why, also birthplaces. Years of birth given below are approximate. McAWEENEY or McQUEENEY, Michael (1824-1883 Tas) mother Mary; brothers John, Patrick, Timothy & Francis; sister Rosa. Could read only. LEDDY or LIDDY, John (1824-1877 Tas) mother Anna; brothers James, Barney, Bartley & Farrel; sisters Rose, Winifred & Mary. Could read only. McPARTLAN(D)**, Francis (1823-1888 Tas) brothers John*, James & Patrick; sisters Ann & Ellen; wife Bridget & one child. Could read & write. * Might be the John McParland (aged 35) who married widow Bridget McCormack1853 Tas. ** A Peter McPartlan (1842 Irl - 1904 Tas) was also in Tasmania. MACGUIRE, John (1826-1847 Tas) mother Mary; brothers Patrick & Phillip. Could read and write. REYNOLDS, Francis (1822-1896 Tas) mother Ellen, brothers James & Francis (transported with him); sister Mary. Could read and write. REYNOLDS, Owen (1813- unknown date and place) older brother of Francis (above); wife Ellen & three children. Could not read or write. Perhaps descendants of the relatives of the above-named men can answer my query?

Gortfadda is Abbey land, its eastern border is bog, the rest is mostly arable, consisting of a blue clay, overlying limestone. There are several good farmhouses in the townland. ___________________________________________________________ Roosky Ruscaig = a marsh, fen or morass Roosky J.O’Donovan Rooskey-Thompson B.S.Sketch Roosky County Map Rusky Surveyor & Valuers Report On the western shore of Creenagh Lough and bordering the parish of Cloone. The whole is arable and pastureland, there is a large village with gardens et cetera in it, but no other remarkable objects. ---------- Editor Note; It is suggested that Rooskey-Thompson stands for Thompson’s Marsh. However, the townland appears to have shrunk in size and was once; also it was known as [according to the registry of deeds in 1750]; as North Rosskey, South Rosskey and other Rosskey. Rooskey-Thompson has also been referred to in the deeds and Tythe Applotments. The necessity for these names appears to be due to divided ownership of the townland between various owners, notably the Crofton Estate and Clements Estate et al. I have also noted that Clooneene in Cloon Parish has acquired the name Clooneene Shanley in the Tythe Applotments.
