Hi, there! I have a John Gilheany from North Kingstown, RI. I had his adopted son, Tim, in high school. Tim is about 30 now. The family has lived in that town for many, many years. I'd be happy to provide his address and phone number if you would like. Hope this helps! Jane in RI

I have some information about Mary Anne's parents and grandparents, and a tenuous link to an earlier generation. Reliable information about an uncle and some cousins and more recent generations. I also have another (so far unrelated) Gilheaney family from the area. Unfortunately, I can't tie any of this to RI, But I am told that some Gilheeneys wound up in Davenport, Iowa and used the last name Heeney. I'd be happy to share additional details.

Gilheeney (and its variants) didn't seem to be a very common name, even in Ireland. I've found only a few in the course of my research. I would appreciate whatever information you have, and thank you for the offer. Cheers Elizabeth

Surnames: Clarke/Gilheeney Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YWC.2ACI/5028 Message Board Post: My G-grandfather Patrick James Clarke was born 1865 at Ballinamore, Leitrim, came to America via Boston and settled in Providence, Rhode Island sometime before 1885 when my Grandfather was born. He was married to Maria Theresa Gilheeney, but I don't know if this was before or after he went to America. I have a letter postmarked 190?(the last number is illegible) from Patrick's mother 'Kitty' to my Grandfather after she visited them in Providence. It is hand-stamped from Ballinamore, so I'm thinking that Patrick probably emigrated without his parents. He was a teamster and a farrier before emigrating. Now I'm wondering if there are still Clarkes in Lietrim that may be 'distant cousins'. If any of this sounds familiar please e-mail me - I would love to hear from you.
