I am from Ireland, and even here researching can be difficult. Just to correct a few points, there was no census in 1921. Due to the War of Independence which was being fought by Irish nationalists at the time against the British Government, it was deemed far too dangerous to send government officials into rural areas asking questions which many viewed as intelligence gathering rather than its true purpose. The census was eventually carried out in 1926 instead. The present government have made a commitment to release it early, but as the amount of information is far greater than previous censuses, it is estimated to take at least 3 years to transcribe fully. I must also take issue with the discussion on cost. The complete 1901 and 1911 census are available free of charge on www.nationalarchives.ie along with other valuable data - unlike most other countries who have sold census info to pay for view sites.
