    3. Hi everyone Please may I avail of someone's services in the following matter: My Great Aunt, Miss Hannah Brennan who was born on 22 October 1882 in Ballickmoyler, Co. Laois, IRL. She left Ireland in January 1914 at the age of 32 and travelled to India to become a Nun in Loreto Convent in Lucknow, India. I am trying to find out how she would have travelled to India. What Irish port would she have departed from. How long would the journey have taken. What ports would the ship have called at enroute to India and what port in India would she have arrived at? Any info would be helpful Thank You Michael Brennan Kent England Home: michael@janbren.freeserve.co.uk Also researching the following members of my family: Moran, Brennan, Lawler/Lalor/Lawlor & Kelly in the Co.Leix. Kavanagh & McDonald from Co. Carlow. Bulger/Bolger from Dublin City. Brennan from Co.Meath, Ireland and Alstead and Stanley from Yorkshire, England.

    3. That's a very long shot Michael. At best - she probably went to England and on from there. Your best bet is actually writing to the Loreto nuns themselves. Some of the few left may know all kinds of stories. There's no-one like a nun to know who is who and what is what and to have all the stories and any Loreto nun I ever knew was *fantastic* with stories :-) now - Loreto in Rathfarnham was the head house here in Ireland but as far as I know the living area has been closed and sold recently. At least - they auctioned off contents of the house - so I'd imagine so. Many of the nuns have now moved out into houses around the city as with other orders. That leaves you with the Loreto Convent in St. Stephen's Green. I figure that's probably the head house in the country now. I'd chance writing to the Mother Superior and asking her if she can help with the information or if she knows any nuns who can :-) Loreto Convernt, St. Stephens Green, Dublin 2.
