    1. [IRL-LAOIS] Re: IRL-LAOIS-D Digest V02 #19
    2. To Michael Brennan, Hello. I have subscribed to the Laois County Digest site just in time for my computer to crash and I am unable to access the Internet. I have a query, if you would be so kind to answer me by e-mail. Do you have any record of miners in Laois (Queens) County c. 1840-1850? I have heard a rumor that American Mining companies advertised in the Midlands for experienced or expert miners. These American Companies paid for the miners passage and provided jobs in American coal mines. My family name is Farrell, also spelled, Farl and Farrel, of Ballyinakill. I am trying to acquire documentation that John Farrell first came to America c. 1840-1850. And, that he later sent for his family, wife Margaret, sons, Daniel, Andrew and daughters Bridget and Mary. The family was not united until after John's death in 1861. That is when John's youngest sons, Michael and Francis were able to cross. I would appreciate any information that you can supply. I write to you as an article about the Midland's coal miner may have appeared in an earlier digest. Sincerely, Jackie (Farrell) Furr
