    3. Hi Everyone Here is the solution to the problem with the CD Rom drive if you are running WindowsXP and FTM Archive CD's. > > I am sending you the instructions that FTM sent me . I couldn't read any of my Family Tree Archive CD's. It worked for me - hopefully it will work for you. Be sure to follow all the instructions. I forgot to remove the semi-colon and it didn't work until I removed it. > > Diantha > > Modify Family Tree Maker's Configuration File > Sometimes Family Tree Maker cannot identify the CD-ROM drive, despite the fact that its working and available to Windows. This usually happens when you have more than one CD-ROM drive installed on your computer. Family Tree Maker may not know which drive letter corresponds to your CD-ROM drive. In this case, you can tell Family Tree Maker where to look by editing its configuration file. > Caution: Do NOT make any changes to Family Tree Maker's configuration file, besides what's mentioned in the instructions below. You could render portions of the program unusable. > > To specify the drive Family Tree Maker should use: > 1.. Open Family Tree Maker. > > 2.. From the Help menu, select System Information. > Family Tree Maker displays the System Information dialog box. > > 3.. Click the Run: drop-down list, and select FTW.INI. > Family Tree Maker opens its configuration file in Windows Notepad and displays it on screen. > 4.. Under the [Options] section, you'll find a line that looks like this: > ;FamFinderCD=X:\ > > 5.. Remove the semicolon and change the X to the drive letter that corresponds to your CD-ROM drive. The X in FamFinderCD=X:\ corresponds to the CD-ROM drive letter. For example, if your CD-ROM drive is drive D, you would modify the line so that it looks like this: > FamFinderCD=D:\ > > Note: Don't forget to remove the semicolon. If a semicolon precedes the line, Family Tree Maker will ignore your changes. > > > 6.. From Notepad's File menu, select Save. > > 7.. From Notepad's File menu, select Exit to close the program. > > 8.. Click OK to close the System Information dialog box. > > 9.. Restart Family Tree Maker and try accessing the CD again. > > Note: You must close Family Tree Maker and reopen it before your changes to > the configuration file will take affect. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Michael Brennan" <michael@janbren.freeserve.co.uk> > To: <IRELAND-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Sunday, July 07, 2002 10:07 AM > Subject: [IRELAND] HELP!!!
