The following is a quote from Sean J Murphy's web site which I think will explain fully why we all need to Lobby our local Irish Embassies "Catering for the growing numbers who wish to trace their Irish ancestry requires flexible and creative thinking on the part of the authorities responsible for record repositories. In England one well received initiative has been the creation of the Family Records Centre in London. Why could not a similar Centre be established in Ireland, holding a range of copy records and in particular copies of the indexes at least to civil (GRO) records of births, marriages and deaths?" "Now a second required initiative is the creation of Internet-based research services, with census, civil registration and other records being digitised in order to compile online searchable databases. This type of service is well established in Scotland in the form of Scots Origins, and is currently under development in England. Why is there is so little urgency about establishing similar government-sponsored online genealogical services in Ireland?"
