Offerlane parish is quite large as it is an area that is not really amenable to agriculture. It is located along the bulge in the middle of the western edge of the county and is mostly what are called the "Slieve Bloom Mountains" (although by North American or Swiss standards they seem more like hills to me!). Ballyfin is just at the base of the mountains, on the east side. If your family was Protestant, the parish registers go back to just before 1800 and are accessible in Dublin.
