Collette, it sounds as if it could be the name of a house, but I could find no house in the area by that name on the OSI map. However, if you don't find a BARRY VIEW in Portarlington, perhaps it should be BARROW VIEW (as in the River Barrow, which flows around Portarlington on 3 sides). I have found that ship's passenger lists sometimes have misspellings for proposed addresses. See a post that mentions Barrow View as an address in Portarlingon in 1951 here: http://boards.ancestry.com/thread.aspx?mv=flat&m=2790&p=localities.britisles.ireland.lex.general . A search for Barrow View in Portarlington on the OSI map gives a map centered on it here: http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,654458,712902,6,7. Select different map series from the box there to see the area in different time periods. Only the most recent map [Street Map (beta)] labels it Barrow View (and you have to go to the greatest enlargement), but it is possible it was called that even earlier. Perhaps someone familiar with the area can tell you. It was an epic journey, and of course I'm very excited and delighted to have finally found the info! Another interesting bit is that, according to the Ships Records, her proposed address was BARRY VIEW, Portarlington, and I'm wondering who lived at that address then as I've never come across it before? It was probably one of her siblings (she had about 6 still alive& living in Portarlington then) but I have a feeling it may have been her sister, MARY ANNE McGUINNESS. Can anyone help me with this, please? > > Colette >
